| Cruise control set on 80. Last mileage entry is San Diego to Phoenix plus some in town driving (unfortunately the winds were blowing at 25mph plus almost the entire drive). Looks like average speed was 75. I assume if I had dropped the speed to 75, it would have improved, but how much? |

Oops.... posted before I was finished.
The chart shows the mpg calculations since I bought it, but the road trip is the last entry. |

| I must be a wimp - I'm not sure I've even driven my MO 75 MPH let alone averaged 75 MPH on a trip... |

You will note that we are talking about an average here.........and showing very low highway MPG?
Why is that?
Well there is a little clue in the upper right hand section of the display.
It is very difficult to drive 80MPH and average 73........unless the highway is empty.
But one thing I know.......You can't get good mileage at 93 MPH.
The GPS doesn't lie.
At 75 I got about 24.1 or 2 on a flat hwy, premium gas, tires at 35PSI, after 10,000 miles on the odometer.

Your GPS pic looks like my Garmin Nuvi 660.

| Speed limit is 75 mph between CA and AZ. 80 is a good pace to have. The 93 was to pass a toy hauler headed back from Glamis. I wish I would have looked at the numbers on the GPS before I started driving all over town. It is a Garmin 660, so far I like it. |

At 70 mph, I can average 24.4 if I have a steady foot and no aggressive maneuvers (AWD, 265/60-18 tires, 35 psi cold inflation) But on a recent trip to Vegas where I was aggressive and driving between 85 - 100 mph, my gas mileage war around 16.8 mpg. Remember that aerodynamic drag requires an exponential horsepower increase to overcome, so mileage will surely decrease as the engine works harder to maintain the higher velocity. |

I must lead a boring and sheltered life - I had no idea there were 75 MPH speed limits (in the US).
I honestly don't remember that last time I was outside of MN/IA/WI... |

| Thanks for the Garmin link. I just got it, so I haven't tinkered with it much yet. |

Folks who like high speed limits in the US will like the 400 miles out of El Paso heading to Kerrville Texas on InterState 10.
All 400 miles is 80MPH.
It is not unusual to be cruising along at 80/85 and see that you are being paced by a jackelope. The ones in west Texas are the largest of the breed.

You're most welcome. Here is some more 660 info.
