Looking to purchase a Murano - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi All,

First time poster here.

I currenly owned a '95 Nissan Pathfinder, and it's time to look for a newer vehicle.

I just went to a Dealership in Canada..2007 Used Nissan Murano for $27,500 Silver Type S, including tax etc would be maybe $29K or so Approx. 14,000 miles.

My question is good deal and also, Nissan Muranoes...it's safe to assume it a high quality vehicle? The history of this vehicle was a lease back/rental vehicle.

I just need some help and guidance and confirmation is a decent product. Dumb question on this thread I suppose, but I need to ask.

Also, used vs new? I'm sure this has been debated many times. Thoughts?

Thank you for any input in advance.

Signed,

Desperately seeking Advice.

It's a solid car, man. Take it for a test drive. Compared to your old Pathfinder, the Murano is rock solid, thick paneled, and you'll be amazed at how thin the Pathfinder feels afterwards - especially a 95!! My goodness!

Just also beware that the Murano is much much much HEAVIER than that Pathfinder of yours. I still can't believe you're driving that paper-thin truck, man.

Ever been in a Mercedes or BMW, and thought "man these doors are heavy" or "wow this thing feels solid"??? That's how the Murano is.

Just go check it out. Sounds like a decent deal. I would do a price check online and make sure it's at market value, and check it out for any problem records, if any.

Does it have leather, what are the options? I think you could ask for a lower price, depending on what the options are.

Here's some good advice from when I was shopping: http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/...=&threadid=9093

Here's a post on mods/accessories if you get to that point: http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/...=&threadid=9187

The redesigned model is supposed to be in dealerships any day now so if you buy new you might be buying a slightly different vehicle with different options.

I've had mine ('03 SL) since new and we have throughly enjoyed this vehicle. It is a solid car and handles and drives beatifully as it was designed to.
You mentioned that it has 14,000 "miles".... Is this a US model vehicle? I'm assuming that it is since in Canada there were only 2 models made; either the SL or the SE.
I take it that you were shown the proper "history" papers the dealer is suppose to provide you?? Was there also a CARFAX info provided?
It's been a while since I have purchased a used vehicle so I can't remember if the vehicle history paperwork will show if the car has been repaired or painted from collision. From what I have been told; the CARFAX will show that information if a registered work has been performed at a bodyshop. It may be worth a few bucks investment to pay to have a month's worth of search(while you are looking at used vehicles) to pay for that service. Just get the V.I.N. numbers from all the cars you are looking at to see their complete history.
Otherwise; you will be very happy with the quality; fit-n-finish; and other characteristics that the Murano has to offer.
A new Murano will cost you at least $42,000 CDN plus PST(8%) + GST(5%) for Ontario to buy. Total = $47,460 CDN for an SL package new.
Only you can decide if the savings of $20,000 CDN would be worth the 14,000 "used" miles. IMHO; as long as the car is a good one that you are buying; I would buy used since the warrenty comes with the vehicle if all things check out ok.

Alan; After re-reading your post; I would lean away from that particular vehicle. If it was a rental; it would have been driven very hard with little obligation from performing a thorough servicing. If it is a US vehicle; you can do the same as the dealer and go across the boarder and bring back a vehicle yourself with full warranty on the vehicle and get a car that has less miles for the same price. There are government websites that have info in how to do so. It's not too hard to do; you can even have a company do so on your behalf and shipped to your door. Anyhow; if you can clarify some info regarding the history of the car we can help further.

I'm not sure how much heavier the Murano is than an old Pathfinder. According to Edmunds, the 95 Pathy is ~4100lbs. Thats about the same as a Murano (~3900-4000lbs). So its not heavier at all. The Murano after all, is just an Altima on stilts.

The MO is an AWESOME car!!! If you like trucks, you may want to reconsider but the MO is the best Car/Crossover on wheels IMO. I agree with John, I would avoid buying a previous rental like the plague.

i have never enjoyed driving a car more than this one
i am retired so i can hardly wait till am when i can go driving
its my first "riding up high" type car-i had a Sentra and Altima
before-my 04 Altima which i lease is a piece of junk compared to the MO-as far as the "used" part of it
get it checked out by a reputable Nissan dealer and you shoud be good-the only danger whit a rental is that the car requires 2000 km breakin and if the daily drivers abused the car you might have the headaches down the road
look around for a good new 07 thats what i did-they are still on the lots discounted about 4000
a new base which i got was 41-i lease however
if you do buyt it make sure you get an extended warranty to cover the drivetrain-the CVT belt driev transmission is good but if a belt faisl they areoudn around 3 g;s and there are two of them
this CVT sure improves the gas mileage but takes abit of getting used to-it feels sometimes when you are driving at low rpm's that it is a "rubber band"
love the car-i plan on getting another one in 4 yrs
and other ? e-mail
60 and retired in Kitchener On
