DENSO Engine Air Filters??? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I recently went online and bought an engine air filter for the MO. The filter is manufactured by DENSO, a Japanese company that claims they are "one of the world's largest suppliers of air filters". Has anyone heard of DENSO air filters? Would you put one on your MO or save it for the lawn mower?

Joe, I googled them thinking they were the same "Denso" that makes spark plugs: http://www.densoproducts.com/produc...uctCategoryID=1

I use their Iridiums in my supercharged F150 Lightning tuck. But, they are not the same company so I can offer no help on the air filters:( .

DENSO, a leading supplier of advanced automotive technology, systems and components for all the world's major automakers. DENSO operates in 32 countries and regions. Operates as Global Denso.

In some countries, it is called Nippon Denso. In my childhood, they used to be the number one maker of automobile A/C systems.

They are like the Parts Plus, Freudenburg NOK, Wix, ACDelco, etc. of North America.

Denso is a huge supplier for Japanese vehicles - a lot of OEM toyota parts are manufactuered by Denso.

My Mercedes has a "Nippon Denso" ac compressor. The orginal went about 250K.

A side question, and this may be the dealer trying to make a case for OEM parts. They claimed there is some type of sensor wire (MAF?) built into the air cleaner. He suggested that only the Nissan part is accurately calibrated and that others may cause the engine computer to provide an inaccurate fuel mixture. I suppose they were telling me a story? Are others using non OEM air filters?

BTW, my wife is the primary driver of our Mo. I snuck away with it the other day, and wow I really enjoy driving it. I may have to find more reasons to get a turn driving it.

There is no wire in the air cleaner - the MAF sensor is upstream (i.e past) the air filter. He probably meant that there is a wire in the air intake duct, which is true (but its not part of the air cleaner).

If debris makes it past the air filter, then yes, it can damage or foul the MAF sensor. But I don't see how an aftermarket filter would differ from a Nissan paper filter. In fact, if one overoils a K&N filter, the oil can foul a MAF sensor.

It never ceases to amaze me just how unscrupulous some (many?, most??, all???) dealers are. They will tell you anything in the hope of convincing (scaring) you into buying their parts and using their services. B@stards!!

Back on topic... Has anyone used a DENSO air filter in their car?

Denso is one of the biggest automotive parts supplier in the world. Denso's main business is to supply various automotive parts to automotive manufacturers (mainly Toyota). In fact, Denso has capabilities in terms of technical and manufacturing expertise that no other Japanese automotive parts supplier has.

For example, Toyota makes all of their parts once prior to releasing of a model and before outsoucing the parts to a parts manufacturer. They do this to ensure the part is up to par when a supplier makes it and also to ensure that their purchase cost is reasonable. However, for significant amount of Denso produced parts, Toyota does not and cannot make the parts due to the technical expertise involved.

So, I would definitely trust Denso parts.
