I found the 2nd opinion even more telling......

Full Test: 2009 Nissan Murano LE
Second Opinion

News Editor Kelly Toepke says:
I had been driving the 2009 Nissan Murano for nearly two days when I met up with my friend Rick. Although I had already formed my own opinion of the all-new Murano, I was interested to hear Rick's point of view as a current Murano owner and father of two small children.

Rick climbed into the cabin and was immediately impressed. "It's more contoured," he said. "Unlike my Murano, this cabin seems to wrap around you, putting all the controls within comfortable reach." Good, I thought. I think so, too.

We checked out the backseat. "Nice," he said. "I'm glad it didn't get smaller inside. Looks like the rear legroom is just as spacious as in my car, but the overall quality of the materials seems better, from the vents to the leather." Yep, I concur.

Standing on the sidewalk, Rick commented on the styling. "I like the new look," he said. "Are those 20-inch wheels? Look how wimpy my car looks next to it with its 18-inchers." He was right. The bigger wheels, along with the new sheet metal, give the whole package a much more distinctive look.

We talked about the 2009 Murano's increased horsepower, smoother-shifting CVT transmission and newly sporty appeal, but the clincher came when Rick's wife Tasha walked outside. Nearing the end of their current lease and simply ready for a change, Tasha had refused to consider another Murano. Until she saw this one.

Validation is a good thing.

Good review...

just one note - my 2003 did 0 - 60 mph in 7.5 sec.....the redesigned, more powerful 09 with more responsive CVT does it in..............8 sec!!!

What is the difference between reactive and predictive AWD?

Unless your Murano was tested under the same conditions with the same equipment and driver as Edmunds' test vehicle, the comparison isn't really valid. FWIW, Edmunds managed 8.2 seconds 0-60 w/ their 2003 Murano. Car & Driver managed to reach 60 mph in 7.5 seconds with their 2003 Murano and 7.2 with the 2009. Admittedly, the differences are small.

As far as the AWD system goes, here's a description from www.nissannews.com:

Intuitive AWD - The advanced intuitive all-wheel drive system recognizes the difference between cruising or cornering, and automatically sends the right amount of power to the wheels.

All 4 wheels - From a stop, press down on the accelerator, and intuitive AWD turns on, delivering power to both the front and rear wheels for maximum traction from the get-go.

Cruise with 2 wheels - During highway cruising, intuitive all-wheel drive system sends all the power up front, resulting in higher efficiency and less wear and tear.

Corner with all 4 wheels - By automatically transferring some of the power from the front to the rear wheels, all-wheel drive delivers a sense of confidence and control during cornering.

The 1st-gen Murano's AWD system operated strictly in FWD unless slip was detected or the "Lock" button was engaged. Even so, the 50/50 Lock deactivates at 19mph and only redistributes power to the rear as needed.

thanks for the info. It seems that the new AWD system is much more inteligent than the old one and is worth the money. Just wonder about the transfer case reliability...

0 - 60.....7.2 and 8.2 is big difference. In any books. However, as you pointed out they should be tested under the same conditions. So I would trust C&D as I got similar numbers for my Murano as they did. I guess we may safly say the 09 is 0.3 sec quicker....no much but there is a difference.....
