Nissan! Pllleeeaasse redesign that 2009 Mo ugly grille - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi Mo fans

I had to stop by at my local Nissan dealership to-day. I had a half day work and I decided to pay a visit to my friends at Crown Nissan, Greensboro. I loved the new Mo interior. Its classy, well designed and pretty much everything I want in a SUV. The dual moonroof is no more than a gimmick that I didnt care for. The configurations are otherwise just perfect. It has the best ipod interface I have come across so far.The price is not bad. Loved the color combos although this time I might consider a bolder color. The only thing I am having a problem is the front end, particularly the grille. I just cannot get used to it! I stood there staring at it for such a long time that the salesman thought that I had lost my mind! I walked out of there telling him that I had not made up my mind yet. Perry, my good friend and the salesman at Crown Nissan said the appearence is something that grows on you slowly. He even offered me to take the vehicle for a weekend test drive hoping that I would like it after driving it for a couple of days(that worked the last 3 times I bought a vehicle from him) This time I am having such a hard time mainly because I still love my 04 Murano and the 09 Murano is better in every way except the hideous front grille. I dont hate it but its like eating broccoli- If you dont like it the first time, you will probably never like it. I have to find a way to replace the grill or wait till Nissan re-designs it quickly. If not its bye bye to Mo and here I come Lexus!(RX whatever next)

Thanks

Was this really deserving of a separate thread? Just accept the fact that you don't like it and move on, or cross your fingers and hope someone comes out with an aftermarket option that is more to your liking.

FWIW, it's not as if the 1st-gen Murano's design (especially the grill) was universally loved. It took some people years to warm up to it and others still don't like it. The Murano has never been about classic/conservative good looks. The Murano was, and still is, a bold/futuristic design, which I had assumed drew people to the vehicle in the first place. Maybe it's just me, but some of you 1st-gen owners are beginning to sound like a bunch of blue-haired Buick owners :o :D

Remember when people disliked the looks of 1st-gen Murano? I know I do. Still, it grew on people and has even been copied by other automakers. I think the same will hold true for the new Mo'.

Here is an excerpt from Edmund's review from 2003 just for kicks:

The first thing you notice about the Murano is its styling. We applaud Nissan's effort to try something new for the 21st century. Not everyone likes the Murano's distinctive shape, but it's hard not to say that it's new, different and effective. Its doorstop front end makes it look slippery — as if it can cut through the air with the ease of a bullet. Its short overhangs, bulging fenders and big wheels give it muscularity. Of all the vehicles in the comparison test, the Murano certainly cut the most rakish profile and drew the most looks.

It was also the vehicle that most intrigued our editors, possibly because it looked like a winner, even if the shape didn't appeal.

You got suckered into buying a ugly new car. Good for you. I bet you were one of the few who loved the futuristic design of Pontiac Aztek. I dont care if the murano is decorated with a fine afghan rug inside. It stll looks very very ugly. So get used to it. BTW the ugly grille deserved a new thread.

Thanks

Wow, I feel the love! Did someone in a new Murano mow down your wife in a parking lot or something? Then again, maybe you resent (resemble?) my blue-haired Buick owner remark? :2:

Life's too short. Don't like the new Murano, don't get one. No need to try and piss on other people's parade. Afterall, this is a site for 1st AND 2nd generation Murano owners, right? At least I hope so. Maybe they'll ban us all for having such horrid taste in vehicles.

Time to move on.....:(

I have done my very best at remaining objective with regard to the new grill since I keep going back and forth trying to decide where I stand on it.

This is what I came up with:

- A bold, futuristic, and striking design that will appeal to some...but definitely not to all. Some will see it as "ugly"...some will see it as "cool". It invariably will grow on most one way or the other and become accepted.

I personally am not crazy about it...but definitely don't think its ugly. I see that "Battlestar Galactica" look and think that its a little too in-your-face styling...but that's not a bad thing. I wouldn't let it stop me from buying one, which I'm seriously considering.

And for the record...I thought the previous gen Murano grill was girly looking and somewhat ugly...so if anything, this is an improvment on styling.

i havnt seen such anemosity since my time wowwwww all this over a grill? everyone has the right to state their opinion no need to bash on them for that

Ok folks, this post was reported to the mods, so lets calm down and lay off the personal attacks such as calling other people a "sucker" or mentioning things like "mowing down the wife." I realize the comments were meant to be sarcastic but the rule here is to be nice.

We will be forced to edit/lock the thread if people continue to bicker. Bottom line - the new MO has polarizing styling. An opinion can be stated but there is no need to question another person's choice in vehicle - after all, we are a MO family here and the point is to discuss this wonderful crossover SUV and share ideas in a FRIENDLY forum. :)

For the record, it was not my intention to start a flame war. I just am a bit suprised at all the negativity towards the new Murano, and for that matter, those of us who like it. The grill on the new Murano is a love it or hate it design, much like the old Murano. I'm not here to convince anyone that they should or shouldn't like it, only to offer up my opinion on the matter.

Besides, you know what they say about opinions anyway, right? Some people find the new GT-R ugly, but I love it. To each their own.

Comparison pic, just 'cuz:

That was nasty. I'd be looking for an apology.

You need to go back and see who started this first and then post appropriately.

I tried to talk about the illuminated kick plates to change the subject but I guess it wasn't a HOT enough topic.

I hope everyone learns to love the new MO as much as the 03-07 version. Nissan usually takes constructive criticism very well so if it doesn't grow on you tell Nissan in a survey and maybe they will change it.

I saw a silver 09 Murano LE yesterday at the dealer and I liked all the changes including the grill. I think the grill and the hood line is much better than the original and I like the new side profile with with the bolder wheel arches. The new tail lights look fine from the back but I don't really like how they bulge out at the side. The interior is much more conventional and nice.

The only thing I like about the original better is the tail lights. It took me several years to decide to buy a MO because of the grill and the dashboard design. Now that I have a 05 SE, the grill and dash design don't concern me, but the 09 made a more favorable impression at first glance.

Muranomax-

You were wrong to call his Mom and GF ugly. That was totally uncalled for. If you don't like the look of the MO, then that is fine, share your opinion, but don't go after someone's relatives just because they do not agree with you.

This has always been a mature and friendly forum, and hopefully will continue to be one. If you can't act like a civil adult I suggest you take your derogatory flames elsewhere.

I already PM'd you about this, but since you apparently chose to ignore the moderators' suggestions, I will post it here before taking action.

From what I read above, you were the first one to post a personal insult. The reply by jwaters was failrly neutral, and remained on topic. Your followup post insinuated that people are getting "suckered" into buying what you perceive to be an ugly car. I don't know about you, but most folks don't like being called a "sucker."

By the way, the blue haired Buick owner remark is a joke that the Cartalk guys "Tom and Ray" use all the time on their radio show, and I wouldn't perceive it as particular inflammatory (I probably wouldn't say it to a Buick enthusiast though).

Thanks njjoe

I was expressing my personal opinion about the 09 murano. I like the vehicle. Sure I dont like the grille. Thats just my personal opinion. I did not say anything about 09 mo owners until we were compared to blue haired buick owners which may be an acceptable expression to lot of people but not me. I do take offence to that. I was not the one who made the comment about somebody in a new murano mowing down the wife. I am amazed that you consider those as neutral comments. I beg to differ.

Thanks

M-

I read the thread from the beginning and enjoyed each post up until the point where you maliciously called another member's "mama and GF" ugly. That was undeserved and way over the line. We don't do that here.

If you don't like the styling, that is fine. Personally, I don't like it either, but I sure as hell am not going to attack and flame someone just because they love the new MO.

Most of the new members joining this forum with be owners of the new 2009 MO. They should be welcomed and treated like all other MO owners.

Mod action - I'm locking this thread as it is only serving to further inflame both parties involved, regardless of who started it first.
