Hello All. Have a question here. Why is that that when I start my MO in the morning and warm it up for a couple of minutes then drive out, the MO feels health and rearing to go but after i'm on the road for more than 30-45mins she seems to set back into her "lazy" mode?....in the morning, my MO just wants to run, like a security dog whose been let out of the cage in the evening.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN !!! ...? |

You're MO is a "morning" MO! ;)
I've been noticing this a bit lately with the colder weather. I think that when the engine is cold, it's overcompensating a bit to get things going, so it's faster to jump up the revs and give power when I ask for it, whereas when the engine is warmed up it isn't trying to compensate anymore.
But when warmed up, mine behaves "normally" (meaning what I'm used to other times of the year). Do you feel yours is the same way, or is it more sluggish when warmed up than it used to be, say last summer? |

| The torque converter won't lock up until the transmission fluid reaches a certain temperature. While unlocked, engine RPMs are higher, so you get more power instantly, but you use more gas too. Once the transmission fluid reaches the right temperature, the torque converter locks up, the RPMs come down, and you have to step on it more to accelerate the same amount. |

Hi Corin. Yes it feels like yours (normal) and not sluggish. Maybe that early morning drive was just toooooooo sweet.
Tyler: can something be done about the torque converter, lol?
Don't get me wrong, I love this SUV very much and I keep getting in love with it every time i open the door (car), he he. yesterday i over-took a car and it was like i was in a V8. don't know what that was about & that's why I'm kinda puzzled a bit about this a.m./p.m. thing.
for my money Nissan/Infinity designed the SEXIEST SUV in a while with their MURANO & FXs & it seems other manufaturers have copied a bit of their designs. GO NISSAN. |

| Well if you want it to feel like it does before the torque converter has locked up, "shift" it into a lower gear setting. I'm not sure if you have a fake manual mode (with gear numbers) or a D,S,L setup like mine was. S will make it feel very similar to the way it does before the torque converter locks up, but you'll get about half the gas mileage. And don't worry about bumping the rev limiter, it won't let you. |

Tyler I didn't know they did fake manual mode (with numbers)..mine doesn't have the D,S,L (which i assume means Drive, Sport, Low?_) but has the + & - when i engage the manual drive mode.
Anyway, my question was just something that made me go Hmmmmmmmmm!!!? |

You have the "fake manual" mode. Meaning that using the + and - you can switch between set ratios. Basically a tiptronic style shifting, but using the CVT.
The numbers (effectively which gear you are in) should display on your dash by the gas gauge (I think). Should show one of these for you: P, R, N, D, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
On the "other" style, you don't get the manual mode, you just get three different automatic modes so the display should read one of these: P, R, N, D, Ds, L.
Same transmission either way, just different feeling. |

| Corin: Mine is the first set you mentioned and buddy if mine is the "fake", I dont want the OEM/Original...it's nice seeing the numbers go all the way to 6 on the dash indicator. Which brings me to another point of hmmmmm. At night when i turn on the headlights and the cockpit lights up with this cool amber color, should I see lights marking the P,N,D ETC....nerar the actual gear knob?... |

Well, I mean "fake" as in it is faking the gears. Since there are no real gears in the CVT, it is using arbitrary ratios and numbering them. Not that it's a fake tranny, it's just trying to mimic the feeling of a conventional tranny in that mode.
As for the lights, no, the markings down by the shift lever do not light up. Same with the steering wheel controls. Kind of annoying, several people have complained about it on this forum. |

| Actually the gear indicators on the console DO light up... I know, I've replaced the bulb. They are just so dim almost no one can ever seen that they are lit. |

Really? Weird. I'll have to check mine out. Maybe it just needs a much brighter bulb! :) |

| There is a light down there. The bulb has a amber cover that dims the light too much so you have a hard time seeing it. Some take the cover off to make it brighter (but then light is white and does not match the other dash lights). Some simply replace it with a brighter light. Some like me don't look down there any more! |

| It's so much easier to just look at the dash... After you get used to it, you don't need to look anywhere, you can just put your hand on the shifter to find out where it is. |

| He is in Nigeria. Do they sell the CVT over there, or use the 5 speed like in South America? |

e-
Good point. Apparently his MO is imported because the Nissan website for Nigeria does not show the Murano.
