2nd gen forums? - Click HERE for Original Thread

With the 2009 out now it would seem to make sense to have a 1st gen and 2nd gen section of the forums. This would obviously make it much easier to find the info you are looking for.

kwill1-

Since the "new" MO shares probably 95% of the parts from the original it really does not make sense to duplicate efforts. If you have problems with your CVT do you want to look at the half-dozen posts in the new section or look at the comprehensive discussions in the current sections?

That's just my two cents.

Valid points. But personally I would rather look at the few posts in a 2nd gen forum, and then if I don't find what I was looking for then I can check the 1st gen forums to see if I find something there.

There is enough new with the "new" MO (new frame, 2nd gen CVT, new engine, new interior, etc) that not all of the issues will be the same. Not to mention any mods, upgrades, etc that will be different.

I second the recommendation for a separate forum. In fact, I sent an e-mail last week asking about this, but haven't heard back from the powers that be. The 2nd-gen Murano is different enough to warrant a separate forum, just like they have on www.acuramdx.org.

Both Muranos may share the same general engine and transmission, but they're programmed/tuned differently. The new one has a new/updated platform, new audio/NAV system, new dual-panel sunroof, completely new interior/exterior, etc.

The CVTs are mechanically-identical; they are both JF010E units produced by JATCO. The shift algorithms are different.

I know the main difference seems to be programming, but according to Winding Road that's not the only thing that has changed.

"All 2009 Muranos will come with a continuously variable transmission, and before you turn the page in disgust know this CVT has been thoroughly tuned up for the new model. It has lighter internals for lower mass and decreased operating friction, and much improved software that makes it act more like a conventional transmission, shifting 30 percent more quickly and without a lot of high-rpm droning during acceleration."

Looking under the hood the 2nd gen has a different organization with a new intake plenum and air intake path, suspension, engine management, nav, user controls, lights, sheet metal - all different. I doubt there is much if anything that is interchangeable. They are more like cousins than twins. They share the name and style gesture, but the new MO is closer to the 2008 maxima than the first gen MO. The 2nd gen topics should start on a new partition.

I think it should be done. This is the way several car forums do it.
The Corvette, the Miata, the Cadillac CTS, the MDX, etc.

Of course the Gen2 guys, all 5 of them, will start slow, as we did back in the day.
But they will grow through the years as we did.

Gen1 likely will atrophy as we go along.
We shared some automotive history.
Whoever is the last one out, get the lights, OK?:D

The Gen2 is a different car even though is share many components with OUR Murano :).

In my opinion these two should be separated. Yes, it would be beneficial for Gen2 owners (all 5 of them :) ) to learn form our experience but they will have also different problems.

So Joe, give it up ;) We have our place in automotive history….and nobody is going to take it from us….we were the leaders….Gen2 are just followers ;)

Enjoy your Gen2 Muranos! And I mean it!

I'm with Homer on this. In 03-04 there was this age of discovery and so much wonderment about our new Murano.

Someone would post about making the rear seat recline by finding a little pull tab in the seat cushion and we'd all be going wow, I never knew that. All kinds of things were happening with the pioneers and it was fun.

I think when the new guys buy their first Murano they should be able to do the same and they can always check this forum for similar info if it still applies to them. It's more fun for them rather than having someone post a link and say that we talked about this or that 3 years ago.

I'm also a member on an Infiniti G-35 forum and they have a separate link for a G-37 forum.

How about just a seperate thread section for them then? It would make searching for things a little easier and still be simple enough to browse everything!

Gentlemen -

As requested I went ahead and created a separate section called Model Specific Discussions, followed by 2 sub-forums, 1st Gen and 2nd Gen.

Cheers,
Daniel (admin).
