Service Engine Soon Light got ON today - Click HERE for Original Thread
ciaka
I was driving in traffic today to work, and happened to look down at the cluster and at that instant the Service Engine Soon light came on.

Anyone can recommend actions to take to troubleshoot this? Just changed oil yesterday (and I am about 1 qt low due to not having enough....but am getting the rest today)...would that impact the light?

Any other ideas? Will be greatly appreciated.

The car has 62K on it. Does not make any noises.
Thanks for help.

Did you recently get gas? The first thing to check for is a loose gas cap. Re-tighten the cap, drive around for a day or so, and see if the light goes out.

You can also go to any major auto parts store. They can pull the code in a minute or so, for free.

The oil level will not cause the light to go on.

Will do. Thanks.

That light on the MO, unfortunately, can mean almost anything, from a dying CVT to like NJ said a gas cap, it's pretty sad actually. You'd think that with all the electronics on this vehicle, having the monitor SHOW you what the code is indicating would be a simple thing to do. Guessing what it is is a waste of time. When mine went on it told me the 3 way cat converter was plugging up??? Who would have guessed that????? Got a new one put on (under warranty...thank GOD) and lo and behold no more light. You're pretty much stuck getting it checked. My dealer here actually charges for the diagnosis, unless it's under warranty, which is a scam IMHO for a 2 minute check!

Here is what happened.

Same day I noticed the light, I was already low on gas. So I waited until it is really low.
Then went to the gas station I always get gas from. Filled up all the way and threw in injector cleaner (I know, prolly not needed but hey).

So today (next day), I get to work and light is still on.
Call Autozone. Sure, they do the check for free.
Lunch time, I go to Autozone.
On the way, the friggin light goes off. I still went there anyway (for history of codes).
When I get there, the guy does the check (yes, it took about 2 mins), and says it threw an evap code.
Then he asks me, do you let your gas get real low sometimes?

I say yes, since I routinely do let the gas get low to like 10 miles or so before fill up. So he says it was probably due to low gas and an air pocket getting into the lines causing the light to come on.
Says could be triggered by rough terrain with low tank level. Surely, that day I rode in rough terrain in very low tank levels.
So he resets it and says if it comes back, you come back and we get the code.
Now I have to keep an eye to see if th elight does or does not come on.

Just throwing this out for all of you to see.

Thanks for your input.

The codes are still there. The light went off because the problem went away, but the codes aren't erased until someone erases them.

Yes. He used the computer to erase them. Then checked again and all the codes were gone.

My Service Engine Light came on today while driving home from work.

i've been trying to figure out when I would bring it to the shop for a check up now.... what a headache.

Then I went online, to my trusty NissanMurano.org website and did a little Seach up in the box... found this thread and read what others had done when they had this problem.

Well, I just went out to the garage and open the gas cover up... and the gas cap wasn't screwed on at all... just sitting there. WOW... what an easy fix. I'm sure the light will be off tomorrow now.

THANK YOU NissanMurano.org and all (of us) who contribute.

I'm not sure if being "low" on gas would cause that issue. Maybe with bumpy roads??
I've driven approx. 20 km (about 13 miles) past the DTE *.* has shown that.
The only time when my SEL came on was due to my gas cap not being tight. A common problem:4:

I drove to work today with the light still on... after about 20 miles, it shut off.

My 2007 SL only has 800 miles and I am already having this problem; I hope that the transmission is not at fault.

You must be a real pessimist. The SES light comes on and you are already thinking it is the CVT.

Check the gas cap. A loose cap will cause the system to throw a code. Make sure it is tight. If that does not do the trick then bring it in to the dealer.

I am far from a pessimist. I just seem to have run into some back luck... It happens to the best of folks! Regardless, I still love my Murano! The posts on this site have been quite inspirational; I will start customizing my cross-over soon.

P.S. It's not the gas cap; it was the first thing that I checked.
