First of all, Hi.. newbie here. At least new to this forum, not a new Nissan owner, but I just aquired a "new to me" 05 Murano to go with the other Nissans in the garage. See pics elsewhere on the site if you like.
So, I really like the Murano, we wanted something to help out with the gas usage for everyday driving and this seems to fit the bill exactly. It has low miles for a 05 and is very clean inside and out.
It has one nagging problem though. the factory installed Sirius radio will not work. I can display the radio ID, and get to the channel change screen, but; It will not accept the activation signal on ch 184 and i can not set it to a channel (like 184). It scrolls through the channels, but will not stop on one. as soon as I take my finger off the scan button, it returns to displaying the radio ID.
My subscrition for Sirius is active and they recognize the radio, but it all ends there.
Any ideas? I plan on taking it back to the dealer, but if it was something simple to check or fix, I'd rather do it myself.
Thanks |

Well, I'm XM not Sirius but if I had an XM radio that would not accept the activation signal and it was in a used car (the car came with Sirius, right?) then I would start thinking the previous owner didn't properly unregister the radio account.
Perhaps they owed Sirius some money or maybe reported the radio stolen and that's preventing you from activating it.
I would start with Sirius customer support (hope it's better than XM's customer support.)

When you say it won't accept the activation signal, are you on the phone with Sirius and are they sending the signal?
Also, be absolutely certain that you are giving them the correct number(s) off the tuner. That is critical. |

Thanks for the replies.
I have talked repeatedly with Sirius and they are the ones that told me to take it back to Nissan. There was no history of unpaid balances or anything like that, I actually don't think the previous owner ever used it.
As far as the ID number, they (Sirius) were able to track it to the car S/N, so I assume that means I gave it to them correctly. We tried the activation both while on the phone and using the automated system. Neither worked.
I think there is either something wrong with the antenna or actual Sirius receiver. It's back with Nissan today, we'll see what they have to say.
Is the Sirius receiver actually a part of the main head unit or is it elsewhere in the vehicle? |

The sat receiver is behind the rear seat, near the drivers side middle.
We had some issues with the unit in our 04 when I first installed it (it was a take-out from another Mo). The problems I was having seemed to be very simular to yours.
Sirius was able to send it an activation signal after I unplugged the unit from the harness for a few minutes and plugged it back in. I left the car outside for about 15 minutes with the key on for it to update the channels afterwards.
If you haven't gone to the dealer, you may want to try unplugging the receiver and resetting it.

What mike442 said... Basically a hard reboot.
I don't think it's the antenna. If it was, you'd probably get a "no signal" message on the display.
Try what mike442 suggested. If no workee, dealer time! |

Ok, dealer states it's not their issue. It's a Sirius issue. "may have to have the activation signal sent up to 30!! times".
What a load. They also stated that it's not a Nissan issue because the sirius radio is aftermarket. No it isn't. Sirus says it a Nissan radio. Gees, what a mess.
I'll mess with it some this weekend. If not successful, I'll just forget it. More problems that it's worth. |
