Dead Battery? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Big Willy
Hi everyone ,
New to the site.
I love my murano, but this morning I came out and my battery was dead...no warning signs or anything.
I live in the north east so it was cold last night.
I have the first year murano.
I can replace the battery, not a problem. but I'm wondering if this is normal for this vehicle?
It has aprox. 44k miles, and no other problems, I just found this to be odd. I did check the fluid levels in the battery and they seem ok.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My OEM battery gave out about 2 years ago on my 03' MO. So I would say its not out of the norm. The fact that you have a very low mileage MO means that you've made many short trips which can be harder on the battery than longer expressway driving which provides a full recharge cycle.

That's about the mileage I had when my battery died.

Lucky for me it kicked in Costco's parking lot. I replaced it myself in about 12 minutes with a leatherman type tool.

My only warning sign was that it started to make a "clickity" noise for a few days prior to death.

Welcome aboard.

Big Willy-

Welcome to the forum.

You have nothing to worry about. From what I recall the 2003 MOs had batteries with slightly less capacity than later models, so they had less cold cranking amps. Your battery simply reached the end of it's life. The fact that your OEM battery lasted this long is pretty damn good.

Thanks for the welcome and the info. I'm going to my buddies shop at lunch to load test the battery.
He seems to think it's time for a new battery also.

Search a bit here on the forum for the other battery threads. MOST people are replacing the EOM battery with a non-nissan.

Several, including me, spent the extra bucks to go for an Optima Red Top. Pricey little buggers, but they are AGM (Absorbent Glass-Mat) and arguably some of the best batteries you can buy. Also fit the MO quite nicely.

And don't listen to Gonzo, if he chimes in on this thread. I think he sacrificed his firstborn to the battery gods. He gets an unholy lifespan out of his Nissan batteries that nobody else can even come close.

That's where I was going to suggest you go as they will load-test it and replace it with free labor.

Btw, as soon as my 2007 Mo's battery dies, I will get one of the gell-cell type(Optima[been using them since the 80s], Odyssey, etc.) as I cannot abide water/acid batteries in my vehicles. Heck, my 6 month old John Deere lawn tractor battery died on me and instead of wrangling with JD on a warranty issue, I bought one of these little 'boogers' for it. The battery store guy thought I was 'nuts' for paying so much for a little, 15 lb battery but I've been using one like that on my little Basshunter boat for years.

Yes. I did check it once and it was only a little bit low...
My thought is it probably was a little low for a long while.
I was very suprised to see that the battery wasn't a sealed unit.

That's my secret I check the levels every 6 months. It makes the battery and Gonzo happy. :4:

I worried mine to death.
I checked the water every oil change and added at nearly every one.
Used pure rain water.
Talked to it and played some music by AC/DC while i cleaned the top of it.
It lasted just about 4 years and 44000 miles.

I shoulda let the Gonz service it.
