Problem installing WeatherTech deflector - Click HERE for Original Thread
topboxman
I bought and received WeatherTech bug and stone deflector for my 2006 Murano. I installed it but I am not able to close the hood. The deflector appears to be thicker than the gap between the hood and grille.

Anyone has WeatherTech bug deflector and successfully installed it on 2006 or 2007 Muranos? Do I have to completely remove the rubber seal before installing the deflector?

I searched for the archives and found people have successfully installed WeatherTech deflector but their cars were 2005 or older.

This is where I bought the deflector: http://www.weathertech.com/store/mv...d=820&Year=2006

Thanks,
Peter

Thanks for the response. It looks like I am not the only one with this issue. I cannot make it work so I will return the product.

I sent an e-mail to WeatherTech and this is their reply:

Thank you for your interest in MacNeil Automotive.

Part 50092 has been tested on the Nissan Murano and fits all model years from 2003 through 2008. Our manufacturing plant does not appear to have updated the labels, which seems to be causing some confusion.

The tabs of the Murano hood deflector need to be inserted between the hood and the rubber gasket. We usually find that when customers call us saying the hood will not close that the deflector has been placed over the gasket instead. If the deflector is placed over the gasket rather than between the gasket and the hood then the part will not be contacting the underside of the hood correctly which can cause interference with the hood closing.

Please check to make certain you have installed the deflector as described. If you still wish to return the part, please call our customer service department at 1.800.441.6287 and they will be able to provide return instructions.

I did installed the deflector OVER the gasket. I will try to install it as per above instructions this weekend and let you know the result.

I re-install the deflector according to manufacturer's instructions by inserting the deflector's tabs between the weatherstrip seal and hood. It was a little bit better but I still have to slam the hood a little harder than usual. It may be the the tolerance on my Murano is a little tighter than other Muranos.

Is the hood latch catch adjustable? Can I adjust the hood catch to the point (by raising the catch a little bit higher) where I don't have to slam the hood too hard?

Thanks,
Peter

Thank you for not responding and letting me to do all the work myself. :)

I loosen three bolts at hood catch and raised the hood catch a little bit and now I am able to easily close the hood without slamming it.

It looks like WeatherTech Deflector does work for 2006 Muranos. It just requried a little extra work. :25:

Well I'm glad it worked for you. It's a pain returning anything through the mail.
