Hello,
i just bought a 2004 FWD SL Murano. i has the transmission with +S on the shifting. dunno if that means anything.
i'm not interested in deep tuning just want to get in some Intake/Exhaust tunes on it.
any recomendation?
so far i have thought of :
Injen Cold Air Intake - IS - Polished Aluminum
Gibson Exhaust : 462-612219 (Stainless)
Any opinion/idea is well concidered.
Regards. |

That's good, because there isn't much you can to do the MO. The parts are just not available.
The cold air intake will do little more than alter the intake noise. But if that is what you are shooting for, then that should suffice.
The same for the Gibson exhaust; it will alter the sound but provide negligible performance benefits because the flow restriction is at the flat Y-pipe, not the rear exhaust.
Enjoy your new MO and welcome to the forum.

so basicly removing the limit of the Y would do the change?
would after replacing the Y would give up benefit to intake/exhaust?
any idea about getting the tune i'm interested? where would u start? |

I disagree completely. I had a "warm air intake" (JWT pop charger) that I had on and off at least 4 times. It shifted the power band up. Basically with the stock intake, it was tuned for more torque, but with the intake it was tuned for a bit less torque and more horsepower. The peak power RPMs were shifted up about 500 at each of the two peaks. Personally I loved it, but you have to drive it pretty hard for it to be of benefit.

| If you're feeling ballsy and willing to spend some time/money...you can get the Altima (2002 - 2006) headers off eBay. I will warn you, they may require some modifications on the Y-Pipe to make it fit perfectly. |

I echo the comment about the JWT pop charger - I don't think it has hurt power but it does seem to rev more freely up top (where it also sounds great). That intake, also on my Maxima, also seems to give a little more pep.
An aftermarket Ypipe would definitely increase torque throughout the rev band - the Maxima crowd loves it (and I have one on my Maxima as well - its been dynoed ~12-15hp increase). There was chatter a while back for a Murano Ypipe but I do not know what became of that project. |

| any time you increase airflow you increase power. and with as small of an air box the mo has you would definately help the situation. I had an 05 xterra previously and the airfilter box was 2 times as big stock. rated at 265 hp. |

The 05 Xterra also has a 4L V6, not the 3.5L from the Murano. |

That is only half of the equation.
You need to provide an efficient way to remove the additional exhaust gases in order to fully benefit from the enhanced intake air-flow.
The Mo has a relatively restrictive Y-pipe. It is a flat, boxy structure. Not the optimum configuration for a Y-pipe.

| I am well aware that the xterra has a 4.0 but it is still based off the VQ platform. The extra .5 liters allows it to have a longer stroke for the torque rating 284 ft. lbs. So if airflow was not an issue to help with the extra hp and torque gains why not use the same size airbox on all nissans. I agree with the Y pipe scenario. The X had the same situation with a crimped y pipe. Replaced a full cat back and gained 15 hp. The cold air intake will help without the y pipe changeout but wont be as noticeable as with but to say it makes no difference is incorrect. |

What kind of modification will they require?? |

The Y-Pipe may require some cuts/welds to get proper alignment with our exhaust. The headers will also most likely need an EGR bung welded on and possibly some minor grinding (how the Altima headers fit on the Maxima). Just a warning, all headers out for the FWD VQ35DE have been throwing a CES light on all vehicles unless replaced with an O2 simulator. |
