Radio does not eject CDs anymore - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi, I have a '04 MO and a couple of weeks ago my CD player stop ejecting an inserted CD. It does "clickety-click" every time when I try to eject it. Took it to the dealer but they don't fix it, they just replace the whole unit ($1100+). I'm just wondering if I can take the unit to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the very same problem a few weeks ago, however mine was covered by warranty.

While talking to the parts guy I was informed that the defective units were sent to Clarion in California to be refurbished. You might want to try surfing the web to see where the Clarion repair facility is. With any luck, they may take walk-in repairs.

I've got an '03 SL AWD with the same current problem (what a headache, especially whenever XM plays crappy music and my iPOD connection is fuzzy at best).

Before I trade it in later this year for an '09 LE AWD, I'll get it fixed through a local car audio outfit. $100 total for installation and removal and $350 for refurbishment. This place was recommended by the local Nissan dealer; not the one where I bought the car, however.

Try this: call a different dealer's service department and see if they can recommend someone local to repair the unit. $1,100 is a rip-off for an OEM system. Don't bother with Best Buy or Circuit City; they generally have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to non-mainstream cars like the Murano.

Besides the massive understeer my old '97 Maxima had, this is one of the few gripes I have with Nissan. The stereos on the Muranos are next to impossible to upgrade. Bose, from what I can discern, doesn't sell their unit as a separate item, and if you want to upgrade your OEM stereo, you have to get something molded into the dash. I didn't even bother asking how much that option would cost.

THIS is where Bose makes a terrible marketing mistake.
They make a few bucks by licensing their name, but they accept the barbs and arrows that should rightfully go to the radio and CD maker.

I know the Radio is Clarion. I don't know who makes the cD, but it isn't Bose. They make the Speakers and maybe the amp.......

My CD works good.
But, then it is the FOURTH new CD in this car.
This car is too nice to call the CD, junk.
Junque is more like it.

BTW in case you do not have a "bose" set up and have the single player CD, there is often a small hole located near the slot on single CD players.
You can straighten a paper clip and push it into the hole. It should mechanically eject the CD.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to find a local shop to check if they can fix it. Definitively don't want to replace it at the dealer.

jctlmm & Murano20155-

Check out this website - Audio & Video Service Stop. They reportedly will repair the MO's non-Bose and Bose head-units for a flat fee of $147 and $187, respectively. Another member recently used them and was happy with the service.

I may buy a used radio but need your advise. My MO has the standard (non-Bose) radio, CD player for 1 disc, no tape deck. I'm just wondering if I can replace it with the Bose unit, 6 disc player and tape deck?

Someone please step in if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure you can't buy the Bose system as a separate unit. I know you can't find that radio on Bose's Web site. I suppose there's a chance a local Nissan dealer might have one lying around, but remember how much Nissan dealers charge for this kind of stuff. Best option for folks like us in this situation (mine still isn't fixed) still seems to be getting the existing unit refurbished.

I got a Bose unit for $220 on eBay (instead of paying $1000+ to the dealer). Now I need to know if I can replace the non-Bose (broken) unit with the new one... any suggestion? Has anyone done this in the past? Any feedback will be appreciated.

I too have seen the Bose system come up on eBay from time to time.
jctlmm; you can pull out the center console area and see if the mounting holes line up on the chassis of the of the HU. The center console comes out in under 5 minutes or so. Not very hard to do. If so; check the connectors on the back of the unit to see if they too mount the same way.
If so; plug it all in and give it a try. I'm currious to know if the LCD display will interface to show that there is a 6 CD player in there.....

Ok... I finally replaced my broken (non-Bose) unit with a used Bose unit that I got from eBay. I used this web page (http://www.murano04.org/) to unmount it; it's really accurate. I have more pictures if anyone is interested. It took my more than 5 min, but it was reasonable; it was my first time doing this. The replacement of the units were really straight forward. I tested the Bose unit, and everything works as it should. All radio keys and CD as well as the A/C knobs, etc. I didn't test the cassette deck. The LCD display also worked as expected. It displayed the CD information for the 6 discs. The only BUT is that the audio quality sucks. Overall I would say that the quality is 40% worst than the non-Bose unit. So, here is another question for everybody: Does anyone know a good, small and not too expensive amp for this unit?

I've had what sounds like the same problem and I was recently able to fix it.

My cd changer would no longer eject or load cds and would give me the "press eject" message, after which it would make a few clicking noises and nothing would happen.

After taking it out of the dash and taking the front plates off, I was able to see the problem.

There's six flimsy plactic "trays" inside, one for each cd. The trays move up and down and stack at the top or the bottom of the deck, depending on which cd is playing.

There's also the spindle mounted on an arm that swings it forward and back, allowing it to be moved to the back of the deck when the cds are moved up or down.

In my case, one of the trays had caught on little piece of metal jutting off of the arm. I was able to use a small screwdriver to gently push the arm back enough to unhook the tray. I also played a little with the tray and made sure it was seated properly in the tracks on either side, but I don't know if this was necessary or not.

Anyway, plugged the thing in, it went through it's routine checking which cd trays had cds in them, and then worked perfectly after that.

It was all pretty simple and it didn't seem to risky sticking a screwdriver in there, as long as you were a little careful. You may even be able to do this without taking the changer out of the dash, if you use a flashlight and can see well enough. The front plastic door can be pried open pretty easily with a fine screwdriver.

Don't know if this will work for anybody else, but hopefully it'll help someone.

Cheers!

Thanks njjoe. Was just looking for a solution earlier and came across the forums. I haven't been here since I first got the car in '04. I may have to spend a little time catching up now. :)

Welcome to the forum zoso. It is not often that a member's first post is to share knowledge and to help existing members. Thank you!
