Grille discoloration - Click HERE for Original Thread

Greetings all,

I've had my 2007 Murano for a month. When I picked it up from the dealer, the grille was chrome colored--it matched the handles. I had it rustproofed and noticed a change in the grille's color. At first I thought that it was dirty, but it was not. So, now I have a stunning black vehicle with a tarnished (brown-like) colored grille. As you can imagine it looks ridiculous. Have any of you had such a problem? What color was your original grille? Any solutions?

Thanks for your help,

Jasmin

I would suggest taking back to where you got it "rust proofed" and ask them.

I had it rust proofed at the dealer. The dealership is not willing to do anything because there are no signs of blistering on the grille.

Talk to a higher up than a service writer...

I think you should be able to show the dealer that it's screwed up by simply parking it next to a non rustproofed Murano.

Apples/Apples.

Then ask them why they rustproofed the plastic part.

BTW, I had to go back to 1983 to find out what exactly rustproofing was..... J/K

I thought it wasn't necessaary to rustproof any more. Another dealer ripoff??

I am missing something here. (not the first time :D)

Exactly why did you rustproof a plastic grill?

Unfortunately, there were only 2009s on the lot. The 2006 and 2007 grille are the same, so the next time that I'll go to the lot, I'll check for the earlier model.

As for the rustproofing, it's much needed in my neck of the woods; they use salt liberally in the winter. Let's put it this way, it sounds and feels as if you're driving on a gravel road! So, it was not a rip off. I would rather have the dealer apply the protective coating than having it done every year--or six months, as some service providers suggest, because of the car's increased exposure to snow/water.

I don't know why the chemical came in contact with the grille. I was not there. Anyway, thank you all for your help. The saga continues...

Where do you live, in an open-pit salt mine???

Dealer rustproofing is a rip-off. What could they have possibly done to "rust-proof" your car? A coat of wax? Spray-on protectant? You can do the same thing at home, for a lot less than what the dealer charged.
