Flexible Antenna for SAT Radio? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Busted Yuppie
Anyone know where I can get a flexible antenna to replace my SAT antenna on my '09 Murano?

I have a Yakima SkyBox that mounts fine but it butts up against my SAT radio antenna. I have to unscrew and remove the antenna when I mount up the box, grrrr.

I figure if I can find a flexible antenna, I can mount the box up and still get SAT reception.

Any help?

Are you talking about the little antenna on the front roof?
That is the am/fm antenna.
So if that is what's bugging you, unscrew it and throw it in the glove compartment and you will still get SAT reception.

Nope--the antenna on the 09 is at the rear just in front of the rear hatch. It points rear up at about a 30 degree angle.

And I believe the 09's am/fm antenna is in the glass.

Busted Yuppie-

I suggest unscrewing the roof-mounted antenna and taking it to your local Radio Shack store. They should be able to hook you up with a whip antenna.

According to the 2009 Owners Manual, there is an antenna printed on the inside surface of the rear window, this is in addition to the rear roof-mounted antenna. The latter appears to be the AM/FM antenna.

By the way, this was a confusing post. I thought I was seeing double. We had Homer responding to hfelknor's (a.k.a. Homer) post.

Don't you mean the former?

And the only difference is my name isn't really Homer :)

No, I believe the roof-mounted antenna is for AM/FM reception. The glass-mounted antenna is for the SAT.

We need to confirm this by referencing the Service Manual.

Ahh, what led me to believe the roof was the sat and the window was AM/FM was this from Cars.com

about the 09

Standard:
AM/FM/Satellite, seek-scan, in-dash mounted 6-disc CD changer, MP3 capability, 11 brand, amplifier, window grid diversity antenna, radio steering wheel controls

and on the 07

Standard:
AM/FM stereo, seek-scan, in-dash mounted single CD, 6, integrated roof antenna, radio steering wheel controls

I have to admit that I am not 100% certain on this one. It's just conjecture on my part. Hopefully someone with a 2009 Service Manual will chime in, because it will help down the road to know which is which.

The owners manual says the rear roof antenna is for SAT radio. The rear window has two imprinted FM antennas.

The owners manual for the 09 doesn't specifically state it, but it implies that the roof antenna is SAT, because it says for "Satellite Radio Reception": "Satellite radio performance may be affected if cargo carried on the roof blocks the satellite radio signal. If possible, do not put cargo near the satellite antenna. A build up of ice on the satellite radio antenna can affect satellite radio performance."...The manual tells how to remove the "roof antenna" but that's about it.

"The window antenna is printed on the inside rear window." but the manual doesn't specifically state that it's for am/fm. I'll assume that the roof is SAT and window is AM/FM.

Guess I'll take the stubby end in to Radio Shack and see if I can match up threads.

I looked at a '09 this morning. Just from the way the antenna is mounted, and knowing just a little about antennas, I would think the base part has the satellite antenna in it. The "stick" that is screwed into it is for AM/FM. If your '09 has XM installed, try unscrewing the stick part and check SAT reception, and then AM/FM reception. My guess is that SAT will still be fine, but AM/FM will not be as good as when the stick part is attached.

Knowing very little about radio antennas, but knowing a bit about cars... For years now cars have had AM/FM antennas imprinted in the windows. And for years now the SAT radio antennas have been thick black things that sit on the roofs. The 2 antennas have nothing to do with each other (the roofa antenna isn't half FM and half SAT). I can't imagine all of that has changed with the 09 Murano.

Doesn't anyone have a 2009 Service Manual? If so, could you please look this up for us?
