Liftgate interior lights do not come on. - Click HERE for Original Thread

When I open the liftgate, the two interior lights on the inside of the liftgate do not come on. I've tried the switch in both positions and checked the bulbs. The bulbs are fine. Is there a contact on the gate latch that activates these lights? I removed the rear interior trim to see if there was something obvious, but could not find anything. I checked the wires and switch with a meter and have continuity. If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks Zuti

Welcome to the forum.

When the switch is in the UP position the lights will come on when the liftgate is opened. They will stay on for several minutes and then automatically shut-down.

When the switch is in the DOWN position the lights will not come on.

Have you put a voltmeter to the fixture to verify there is power?

njjoe-Yes, it has power nad I can get the light to come on momentarily. It seems to be an issue with a contact or switch and I and I am not sure of the activation mechanism when the door is opened.

According to the service manual, the light switch is incorporated into the rear lock/latch assembly.

strange. i worked on an 09 murano that had this exact same problem the other day.

the problem is the lock/latch assembly. open the liftgate and try moving the latch left and right. at some point the lights should turn on. if that's the case and your still under warrant, have it replaced :)

Well, I fixed the problem. After poking around with the latch mechanism, I discovered that there is a contact area around the latch that makes the electrical connection to the gate lamps once the gate is opened. As mentioned in one of the replys, after I moved the latch mechanism (the plastic locking portion with the metal contact on its rim), I was able to get the lamps to come on and stay on. I believe that there may have been a film or corrosion on the contact surface, and once the contact area was clean and making good electrical contact, the problem was solved. Hope this helps anyone else with this problem. Thanks Zuti
