My wife and I are looking to get out of our smallish 2005 VW Jetta and into something larger due to a recent addition to our family. We have found what appears to be a pretty fair deal on an 03 SL AWD with 66k on it. We drove it tonight, no apparent issues with the transmission or anything else. Interior was very clean with many options.
I have read over 500 reviews of this vehicle, and most reviews are positive, with some issues that i am sure you are all have read about...bottom line, I think we're going to pull the trigger and purchase it!
I did forget to look at one thing, and I haven't been able to find info online about it...does the 03 model have a telescoping steering wheel? One thing I noticed when I drove it today was the the steering wheel seemed awfully close to the dash cluster. Perhaps it was just closer than I am used to. |

ThunderCAT-
Welcome to the forum.
No, the 2003 Murano does not have a telescopic steering wheel.
Before you plunk down money on the car I suggest you crawl underneath and take a look at the front drivetrain. Specifically, look for signs of oil leakage where the front half-shafts connect to the transmission. If they are dry then all is fine. If the connections are wet with oil then I would walk away.

Thanks for the info!
I wish I would have found this site before we looked at the vehicle so I could have checked out the oil leakage. This morning I spoke with the private party dealer and he is drawing up the paperwork today and I am heading to the bank this afternoon.
Should I notice this problem, are there any preventative steps I can take to ensure no larger issues develop, or is the damage already done? |

| Welcome...Still not late to check it when you get there. Ask to check it before you sign anything or give them any money. Once you see the leak, it can cost you if out of warranty. |

Hey great year for the MO!!!!!
I was also look into as just an FYI if the alternator was reaplced as there was a recall. If not get it done but good news is that it will be covered by our friends at Nissan. There are also some other recalls to specifically the fuel shield and the rear seat belts (now with the extra "package" coming I would think you would be interested. :p
Good luck, its a great car with good space in the rear and hatch area. |

I'll take a look before purchasing...for sure. How can I tell if the alternator has been replaced?? I need to look into the other recalls too, just to make sure they've been done.
Thanks!! :D |
