| Within the next couple of days my wife and I will hopefully be purchasing an 03 Murano that we've been looking at. Tonight we were talking about whether we should purchase an aftermarket extended warranty, and I really don't know where to begin to get the best coverage (for noted Murano issue tendancies) for the best price....anyone have any recommendations? We're looking at an SL AWD with leather, Bose, sunroof, etc...no Nav, no tire pressure guage. |

The 03 is not a bad car,but Nissan will not repair the CVT after all these years. They only replace for an average price somewhat north of $6000 at most dealerships.
Make sure the transmission is covered for as long as is applicable.
There are also some issues with Throttle Position sensors, O2 sensors, Mass Airflow Meters, and possibly the AWD components if so equipped.
The CD player has had continuing problems.
Another vote for Warranty Direct.
I had them for a Jag and they were great.

I sumitted for a quote and was offered MajorCare and XtraCare packages. The XtraCare was $130 more for the 3-year plan, and covers everything the MajorCare covers, plus the following:
Interior/Exterior Features
Rear Suspension
Anti-lock brakes (ABS)
Cooling
Fuel Delivery
Seems like that might be the way to go...it's $1700 for 3-years/37,000miles...but seems like it might be worth the peace of mind should anything bad happen...and one tranny problem and it's well paid for.
We just picked it up this afternoon! LOVE IT so far! |

| Have you talked to the dealer?? I got a used murano and got the extended waranty with no problems. They have three different ones with varying prices and coverage. As long as you are still under 100k kms and 5 years your good to go. |

Just bought an 07 SL AWD brand new...dealer offered me a Nissan Gold warranty for about $1600, which would extend the factory warranty to 72 months/100K miles.
So this effectively covers me between years 4 and 6 of ownership. From what I can tell, the biggest reason to buy this is for CVT failure, but I would think the CVT would either fail soon (before 36 mon/36K miles) or not fail for at least 100K miles, which makes this warranty useless. Other than the CVT, I didn't think too many other items would fail which would cost me more than $1600. Plus, I figured by 2007 they would have fixed many of the design flaws.
So is my logic correct? Does not buying the warranty seem reasonable? |

Your logic is reasonable, and is the same reason many people elect to not get an extended warranty. If something has a true defect, it will likely break during the normal warranty, otherwise it will likely work correctly until it breaks of normal wear & tear (which most warranties won't cover anyways).
That reasoning, along with hearing too many stories about warranty companies using every possible loophole and trick to get out of paying for the service, is why I chose to skip any extended warranty coverage. |

Data on these transmissions shows they have a better than average reliability.
The best reason I see for buying an extended warranty is for peace of mind. One should never expect to come out ahead financially. Otherwise, why are these warranty companies in business.
The cost of peace of mind may pay for itself if the vehicle is kept another year! |

Good point. I'm still thinking of risking it and going all the way with no extended warrenty. It may be stupied, or it may work out. I'll let you know in 4 years. |

Here's an article that says when someone comes in for a T/C leak or failure to recalibrate the AWD so that there is less stress on it.
http://www.canadiandriver.com/artic...03-07murano.htm
You would think that Nissan would have started recalibrating them from the factory with the newer ones ('06-'07)?
Anyone know if they have? |
