LCD Option - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi,
I purchased a used 2007 S at a great price, but wanted some of the upgrades offered on the other models such backup camera. So I purchased a NavTool Video converter on Ebay for LCD screen and a camera that mounts on the license plate cover.

I have installed the backup camera, but the NavTool Video converter has an additional video input that can be used for something else to display on the dashboard LCD screen that I am currently not using. Being a tech geek, I feel I am wasting it’s potential by not using it and looking for cool options to display on the LCD screen. I have pondered the below options, but what else would YOU use it to display???

Nav Unit – The price doesn’t make it too appealing.

DVD player – It’s a dashboard LCD screen and could be distracting.

Video Game Console – Not a gammer.

How do you think the quality of the display/picture gonna be?

I'm planning on connecting this CarPC
to the OEM display using similar adapter.

I don't know much about Centrafuse system. From what I do know it still has some software bugs.

You can build one, or buy a used system for a lot less.

I think you should build your own!

I have a Compaq EVO with a 2.0G P4 processor in my MO. I added a DC-DC PSU with shutdown controller. It runs on XP professional and I use RoadRunner as well as FrodoPlayer for Front End. I use IG 3.0 for navigation. . It works great, I learned a lot, and it did not cost a lot of money.

I put in a VGA monitor so picture quality is great.

If you are interested, pm me and I can sell you my old carputer which I upgraded from. It is the size of a book and i have a picture of it in my gallery.

Mr. Z, Great setup! I may be interested in purchasing your old carputer.

But I'd like to first make sure if I can use the OEM color display with the carputer.

The RGB Converter (navTool or Nav2go) only provides composite video input and I'm concerned that connecting a computer via RCA video cable will not result in acceptable picture/display quality. Any thoughts on this?

The bad news is, you are correct. Composite video is inferior to RGB.

The good news is, on a 7 inch screen you probably won't notice it as much.

Also remember this is inside your car, where other elements such as bad lighting and incorrect viewing angles are present. In such environment, getting great picture quality is very difficult, if not impossible.

Where on eBay did you get the NavTool and camera? Was it costly? How is the installation for the NavTool Video Converter?

Thanks
