Price of extended warranty - Click HERE for Original Thread

I was considering purchasing Nissan's extended warranty when I purchase an 09 Murano in the next month. Has anyone purchased this type of warranty and what would be a fair price to pay? I know those warranty prices can be all over the place. Thanks.

For the 7 year/70K mile warranty that is bumper-bumper (extends the 3yr/36K base warranty) I was quoted $1700 for new 09 Murano.

Check out these guys too.

Well established and their policy also covers wear-and-tear breakdowns, which the Nissan extended warranty will not. Authorized payments are made immediately to the service department with their corporate credit card, so there's no hassle on your part. I've used them before and will be purchasing one for my new 09 very soon. IMHO, you'll get better coverage for less or the same money. Take care!

What's a wear-and-tear breakdown?

Scroll down to the bottom of the page. They explain it much better than I could.

Some of the past issues I've read about here on the forum, of Nissan not covering or reluctant to cover, some items in their extended warranty, are probably due to theirs not including wear and tear breakdown. That's the loophole that gives Nissan the right to say it's covered or not. You should not have to wait for the almighty powers of say from Nissan to decide if something is covered or have to haggle them and settle for partial coverage. One issue that comes to mind is the seat rail problem. IMHO, WarrantyDirect would have covered this without any questions asked. Another plus, if you're somewhere in the boonies, with no Nissan dealer for miles, you can get your repair covered. Now, just to make sure we're comparing apples to apples, I'm talking about the best coverage that WarrantyDirect offers to the best that Nissan offers. Take care!

I did the online quote for Warrenty direct... they didn't offer the 7 years to me... just 5 year plan.

Good info Red. WarrantyDirect offered up to 8 years/120K miles on a new 09 Mo. WD charges about $100 more than Nissan comparing the best plan to the best plan. For another $500 you can add 45,000 more miles (120K) but only Warranty Direct.

That warrantydirect SecureCare seems like a good deal, I may check them out next time.

Does anyone have the Nissan Certified Pre-Owned warranty? That's what I have. It's 84 month/100,000 mile (from new vehicle in-service date). It was about $1100. I purchased my 03 last year with 40,000 miles, so I'm covered until 2010, unless I hit 100k miles first. It's not bumper-to-bumper, but it covers just about everything including the CVT and most electronics components, including the crappy stereo.

I was quoted $1035 for the 5 year, 100k mile Nissan warranty. It has a $50 deductible. Any thoughts on this?

I just purchased Warranty Directs 7year/100k Luxury Care Package with a zero deductible for $1,795. Includes full bumper to bumper coverage on the car plus the electronics extras like NAV, Bluetooth and airbags. Less money and better coverage than the Nissan warranty I was offered. Also confirmed that Warranty Direct has done business with my Dealership's Service department before.

In addition to price and coverage, the other big advantage of Warranty Direct is the fact you can get your car to any licensed facility for repair which is key if your traveling.

As long as WD stays in business.

For my new 2009 Murano SL, WD quoted me the following since in live in California:

6 Years / 100000 Miles
Zero deductable $ 1,762
$100 deductable $ 1,155
$200 deductable $ 771

I sure would rather have 7 or 8 years of coverage.

Does anyone know why it's less coverage time in California for about the same price and features as other states?

Third party extended warranties were now allowed to be sold in California and Florida. Just recently, the law was changed and California was added. I'll bet the new law has some time limits written into it. Take care!

Have any of you ever needed to use an extended service plan... just to be told that "sorry, we see that all the factory maintenance doesn't appear to have been done, so we can't help you"?

As a prerequisite to obtaining service, if you pay for the factory service at the intervals they suggest, you'll be paying way more than the $1700 Nissan wants for the Security Plus Gold (at $0 Ded.)

I've maintained my cars quite well in terms of servicing, but sometimes these guys just want to drain your wallet along with the oil!

But in any event, have anyone actually used an extended service plan, and if so with what results? If you intend on keeping the car for the long term, maybe, but...

AT $30 / year GEICO's all risk is quite a bargain!

7 year/70K mile extended warranty that is bumper-bumper through Nissan was going for over $1700.

I said no thanks and the guy said ok, then paused and asked me why I declined.. and said is it cuz it's too much money? I said Yes, if you give it to me for under $1000, I would buy it. He said the best deal he can give me is $1060 but he would have to ask his superior.

7 year/70K mile Premium warranty that is bumper-bumper with $0 deductable for my '09 Murano LE - $1060.

Hope this give you all a good idea on what you can negotiate.
