Folks it's time for me to say good-bye.
I traded my Murano.
I was never happy with it from the beginning, as some of you may know, and the time had come to send that clunker packing.
I got some money from the tax-return, and before I spent another dollar on that Murano-sity I decided to go get something that will save me money in the short and long run.
Yep - I bought a Prius. Fully loaded, with leather, Bluetooth and Navigation. I basically put down what I got back from my tax-return and got pretty much exactly the same monthly payment I was making on the Murano.
I'm already saving as the Prius is getting 2.5 times the mileage per gallon of the Murano, and I only have to use Regular Gas, which saves me again.
Then I save again on insurance since the Prius is considered a car, not an SUV.
I was disappointed because I did not get as much as I wanted for the Murano in trade as I would've like since the 09 had come out and nobody wants Nissans so the value had plummeted.
But it's OK. Like I said I will save immediately and getting 50 MPG is absolutely unbelievable. 9 out of 10 I am driving by myself so I don't need all that space, and now I have Bluetooth and Navigation that I did not have in the Murano, and I feel like I didn't really spend anything more because my tax return was decent.
I was only getting 20 MPG in the Murano no matter how gently I drove.
I get a tax-incentive for the next tax return for helping to extend the use of fuel!!!!
I can drive like a banshee and still get great mileage - not that I would, since I drive like a grandpa, but you get the point.
I got myself a nice sand color one with gold badges. Gold badges!!!!
I love watching the gauge on the LCD panel in the Prius as it tells you that incredible MPG. It really really is amazing.
Good luck to you all. It was fun while it lasted. |

| I sure hope the engine on the Prius is better than the Toyota Matrix. I have had a Matrix for over three years and while it is a good car the pickup is terrible. It has a 1.8L engine. I was serious considering the Prius too but it has a 1.5L engine. Also you should verify your MPG. I heard many reports that the Prius doesn't get the MPG ratings that are claimed. I also thought the tax incentive for the hybrid was ending last year, check that out too. I surely didn't want to take a step down plus I wanted to get a more upscale, fully optioned car this time. Was looking at the Lexus RX350 but they are very dated. I really like the 2009 Murano LE and will probably get one in the next month or so. |

This is correct. The tax credits are based on the numbers of vehicles sold. Prius is no longer eligible for federal tax credits.

Tarzan can check here

to see if theres other credits he may be eligible for. |

PYRIS, nice old man car. Please don't run into the back of me while being fasinated by your milage, or wondering why you aren't getting what you thought you should.
On the other hand, get out of the way so the rest of us can get where we are going...... in style.
Oh, and enjoy the hugs from the tree huggers, just watch out for the bark. |

Oh, be nice. :) People can drive whatever they want, no need to be mean! The prius is a pretty stylish car too. |

That is uncalled for.

The Prius is damned quick, actually - all you have to do is to step on it - they did something with the Torque to move this little thing.
I've asked around a lot around here and people I know in transportation are telling me that the reason why the MPG seems over-rated is because generally, people drive too fast and step on the gas too much too hard from a complete stop and so they're abusing the machine. Like I said, I drive like a grandpa, very safe and very steady, I am in no hurry and my back won't take that sort of shifting and jump-forwards anyways. I never speed and see no need to be rusing to the next stop light/sign. I've never been late because of traffic as I make sure that I am there early rather than just on time, so I can take a breather when I get to the destination.
I am also 5'9" and 150 lbs. I think a lot of people out there are overweight and carry a lot of luggage. I don't - it's just me and my briefcase.
It's OK on the tax credit - my company is going to pay me a certain amount of Car Allowance which ends up being the monthly payment (!!!), and they're also going to buy my gas, which should be may be a tank and a half every month. So I am doing great even without the tax credit - the tax thing was going to be a personal thing, and who knows, with the Administration fighting for people's attention, we may still see something change.
Plus, it only needs an oil change every 5000 miles - which means I'll be servicing it 2 times less a year than I did for the Murano in this past year.
And the damned thing never needs a tune-up - the first time is at 100,000 miles. And I got warranty up to then, too.
I live and work within the suburban-circle into the city, so the traffic is pretty damned heavy anyways, so there is really is no zooming around like people used to, around here. Honestly - the freeways are jammed pretty much from 6am-10am, and then again from 2pm - 7pm. It's hard to consistent drive above 40MPH or above 65MPH around here for more than a few minutes at a time.
I did it, anyhoo, so there you go.
Wishing you all the best with the new Muranos. |

it's OK, Joe -
I AM a treehugger of sorts! I plant flowers and plants every week and tend to a very nice garden.

It's alright, Eric -
I did say I drive like a grandpa, but that doesn't mean that I sway all over the road or that I am not attentive. I am an excellent, safe driver. People love my driving because I am safe and am always looking at the road when I drive and always looking far ahead and thinking ahead about what's coming in front.
I think I did alright with the Murano, getting 20.2 MPG around here in the City of Angels, with the whacky freeways, lots of traffic and stupid mountain roads. |

Oh yeah and in a year I only drove 9700 miles. I bought the Murano last March. So it was exactly a year.
I even got my GAP credit back, the money which I should see as a check in about 2 weeks. Which will offset my downpayment.
So it's all good. I am saving everywhere. |

Can you name a single car that ON AVERAGE gets the claimed MPG? Come on. Just like any other vehicle on the road, in order to get close to the listed MPG you have to drive very, VERY conservatively. Same goes with the Prius.
And I certainly wouldn't consider it to be an old man car, certainly not here in the Seattle area. Most Prius drivers here are quite young (20's to 30's). Spoiled high school students here are even getting the Prius as 16th birthday gifts, and they're considered a "cool" car. |

Congratulations, Tarzan_MO!
I traded the MO for a Prius last November. Same setup you got, just in green.
Anyhow, after 6,000 miles I'm still loving it! And, you're right, there is plenty of torque (295 lbs/ft from the electric motor). I'm averaging a bit over 43 mpg, but it's been cold until this past week and I have a highway commute with some steep hills. Still, can't beat that with the MO. I figure I've saved about $450 in fill-ups so far. To date, my most expensive tank has been just under $29.
Enjoy the ride and the savings! |

MO Dale and Tarzan_MO,
Congrats to both of you and sorry to see you go. I guess you will also be dropping "MO" from your names and adapt "Prius"?

Congrats on the new car! I have rented the Prius from Hertz a few times and really like how smooth the vehicle is and I really like the gas mileage on long trips. On the Other hand, I don't think the MO is a bad vehicle or Nissans are not wanted, they just may not hold there value as strong as a Toyota.
Congrats! |

I've joined the club of trading in my Mo.
While I LOVED Mo; handling styling, fuel economy and comfort - at the end for me, the quality wasn't there; not even close.
I would have (in a heart beat) picked up a 2007 - however my comfort level with Nissan dealers and lack of any response from Nissan Canada on my concerns forced me to another car.
I ended up purchasing a brand new Mazda CX7. There are aspect of this car that I like a lot better then the Murano (interior, tighter handling, lighter feel, slightly smaller and overall customer service); and there are aspects of the Murano I like better then the Mazda (V6 power, exterior look, larger fuel tank).
I also considered an Edge - however decided to not go that route.
I do like the tone of this forum, so will hang out and post.
Cheers.
Scott. |

| The edge is fords ugly morano knock off... I read the motor trend with the 06 morano beat up on that pos... thank god for mazda and volvo or else ford would be in the toilet... haha :2: :2: :2: |

In honesty, the Edge is a nice set of wheels. Clearly Mo was their sole inspiration however. The problem with knock offs is you don't innovate. Combine this with Fords track record of cost cutting - I decided to not go there.
The Edge could have been a "Murano Beater" IF they'd done the following:
- Cut the weight be 600 lbs (the car is proportionately almost identical to the Murano but weighs in a lot heavier and it shows)
- Improve the fuel economy - would happen w/ less weight. I know a couple of people who own an edge and they say it's not even close to Fords promised #'s.
- Braking in the 07 was poor - but improved in the 08; maybe would be better if the weight wasn't there.
- -Interior was ok; but could be better. The seats were fantastic (better then Mo's).
-They don't offer a back cover?!? Really? It's that kind of a no brainer?
Stuff I liked about the Edge;
- Looks (subjective)
- The sunroof (thing is AWESOME!)
- Sync - very, very cool. I wish my CX7 had it.
- Seats (espeically the black leather w/ white stitching - very cool and comfy). |

I was seriously considering the Edge but thought the seats were hard as a rock. It actually hurt my lower back. I just purchased an 09 Murano and the seats are fantastic. |
