Hey Everybody,
Just thought I'd introduce myself. I had a 2002 Maxima SE for 3.5 years and decided it was time for something new. I looked at Altimas, Accords, Chevy Malibu, and finally realized that the Murano was what I wanted, as it offers the small SUV size inside with a lower/sportier profile and drive. I drove an 07 and an 09 and found that the 07 was the better fit for me in terms of pricing and a few other factors. I got an 07 Silver/Black SL AWD with Premium Package and VDC. I paid $31,450 for it, about $6k below MSRP. It was a demo with 6k miles, so that partially explains the good deal...that and the dealer has too many 07s that they no doubt want to get rid of.
Anyway, there is a lot to love about this car and I'm looking forward to a couple of fun years with it. I'm actually getting my first mod tomorrow - remote start...can't wait. Also looking forward to hanging around the forums and getting some helpful info from everybody. See you all around! |

First - Thanks everybody.
Second - I'm in Parsippany, up in Morris County. I'm getting my remote start done by a guy in Edison that I found on Maxima.org years ago who does high-end car stereos, alarms, etc. I do have intelligent key, and I am having him put in a very basic remote start so that the factory fobs can be used to start the car. I was thinking about going for the nicer 2-way transponder setup, but having that extra alarm would pretty much defeat the purpose of the intelligent key, and having that 2nd fob in my pocket all the time would be really obnoxious (IMHO). So I'm settling for the shorter range of the factory fob. |

I work in Roseland... not to far from Parsip... I also went to William Paterson... ANYWAY. Let me know after you get your remote start installed. I have a little secret for you that includes remote start and intelligent key. I figured it out by accident one day.
Good luck with the install. |

Haha...okay, cool. I hope it's a good thing. I'm picking the car up in a few hours, so I'll be asking about this later.
Yeah, Roseland's not too far at all. I work in Manhattan and usually take 280 home, so I'm driving right by you every day of the week. You wouldn't happen to work for a company called Amano Cincinatti, would you? |

No, Prudential... and you can see my bld from 280 (West bound side). Did they ask you for a backup key to put in your car? Did you use your valet key? |

I gave him both Intelligent fobs and the valet b/c I didn't know what he'd need to program it, but I asked him to use the immobilizer bypass module that does not require the use of the intelligent key, which is somewhere between $35-50 more expensive than the option using the valet key, but I just didn't like the idea of giving up the key. I'm sure I'll never use it, but it's just a hangup of mine. |

Thanks bud, not a bad idea.
These are the issues with my remote start install:
1) The ignition tumbler remains locked when I get in the car from remote starting, so I still have to turn the car off then restart the normal way when I actually want to go somewhere.
2) If I start the car without the remote start, the security light on the instrument cluster stays on while I'm driving. The manual says this means the immobilizer bypass system is malfunctioning. This doesn't happen when I use the remote start and then turn off and restart the car to drive away. I can get the light to shut off by hitting lock twice and tapping the brake.
3) If I start the car from the remote, then shut it off from the remote, the headlights stay on (at night with headlights set to auto). They do not time out after 45 secs or a couple of minutes - I have to go to the car and shut them off manually. This shouldn't really be a problem as I will usually go somewhere with the car once I start it up or I can just turn off the Auto headlights.
Other than these three things, it's pretty nice. He programmed it so it starts after pressing unlock twice. This also works from the inside lock button on the doors. So if I leave the car unlocked, anybody can walk up to it, open the door, and start it, but as soon as you hit the brake, it shuts off anyway. Not a big deal as I never leave it unlocked and don't have any kids to worry about accidentally starting it or anything.
I think the guy doing mine is pretty well reputed, but he said he's never done a Murano with IntelliKey before, and that it's not the same IntelliKey system as the G35 he used to have. I'm wondering if the issues are all related to the use of the module w/out the valet key. Maybe if I have him switch that out for one with the valet key in the car, the problems will go away. One thing he did say was that he could unlock the tumbler so I wouldn't have to turn the car off then back on, but he said it would always be that way, so somebody could just walk up to the car (if unlocked), hop in, start it up, and drive off. I don't want that. |

Congrats!
But those three things you mentioned would be really annoying me right now.
I understand how you feel about not wanting 2 fobs. When I had mine installed, I asked them if they could use the stock fob also, but they mentioned I might run into some issues like your's, so I opted for the 2-way instead.
I know people here have the stock fob working seamlessly and I'm sure they'll be to your aid within no time. :) |

FYI - I also had that Key light come on a few occasions while driving.
The shop didn't use the valey key method on mine either. They used a bypass like your's. So that may be the cause of the light coming on. |
