Recording on NAV hard disk - Click HERE for Original Thread

I understand the hard disk has a flash drive option to record music on the hard disk. Can a CD inserted in the single disk player also be used to transfer music on the hard disk? If yes, what other information is also transferred (i.e., album name, song title, etc)?

Yes, that is what it does. Album name, artist and song title are all included if the "Music Box" can figure it out (I think it has the GraceNote db on the hard drive). If it can't, then you can download some data about the unnamed tracks to the flash drive, use a windows program you can download from Nissan, and get the names from gracenote.

There is a CompactFlash memory card slot available on NAV-equipped vehicles. There is no flash drive input, if by that you mean a USB Flash Drive, aka thumbdrive, etc...
Moreover, presently it seems impossible to transfer music from a CF card to the HDD/MusicBox. You have to rip tracks from CD.

No recording from CF card to HD.
It appears that it won't recognize more than 512 files on a CF card either. (I have a 32g card, with 8000 files...)

You CAN rip from a CD to the hard drive. I would recommend turning on the automatic record as well. Other wise, you have to listen to the whole cd to get it to finish ripping.
With automatic, I just stick a CD in, and turn on the radio while I drive to work, and in just a few minutes all the songs are ripped.
Also, download the utility from Nissan to update the songs database with your PC and a CF card....
Works like a charm...

I would like to clarify that CD ripping is not done in real time. It takes about 10 mins to rip a 40 min CD, so you won't have to listen to the *entire* CD while ripping, just long enough for the recording to finish. :)

I am hesitant to turn on Automatic Ripping ON, as I preview a lot of CDs in my car, and some of them may end up being crap. I find it easier to only record what I want than to clean up the Music Box afterwards.

Another little annoyance... If you have a DJ-type, continuous-flow CD you will notice a little skip between ripped tracks when played back to back. Personally, I find it *very* annoying, so I relegate those mixed CDs to iPod.

Interesting. I'll have to revisit that. The first two Cd's i tried to put o the Music box, didn't finish, and I thought it was because I switched to something else after I told it to record. I put it to automatic and haven't had an issue since, so I thought that was how it was done.....
I don't have enough CD's to mess with it much either way, though.
I LIKE the XM, and wil probably subscribe...

One issue to keep in mind is that the music box docs say that it will only accept CD format tracks and not rip a CD created by burning such as with a bunch of mp3s.

What I've taken to do is keep a IPOD in the car and use that as a sort of adjunct to the 9GB music box. I have a new IPOD Touch that I carry around with me and the last gen IPOD stays connected in the car, I update it every so often as I add to Itunes.

I am thinking of getting a Murano LE. Can you access all the podcasts and tunes via the touch screen while moving or is there some disabling?
