For another Murano!
First of all, long time lurker and first time poster. I've been reading all of the great hints and technical advice here since 2005 and this forum has saved me a ton of hassle. Figured it was about time to say thanks and to contribute in anyway that I can.
We had a silver '04 SL and had 50k trouble free miles... Well almost:
-We had the alternator recall
-We had the sudden engine cut off issue. I read this forum, got the throttle body replaced under warranty, and never looked back.
-We just lived with that silly driver's side door
But when we reached 60k I thought long and hard about the vehicle and told my wife to start looking for something else. This was not based on the history with the car but rather with the risk of a potential CVT or AWD failure. Those are just too big of an expense to have uncovered.
Well she found something else, another Murano. This one is an '05 SL with 18k on the clock. It's grey with the black (liked the tan better) interior. It has the DVD, which will get used on occasion, the back up camera and the intelligent key. For some reason it doesn't have the TPS which was a very nice feature on the '04. Oh, it has the Sirius and the PO's account is still active (thanks!). I have Sirius in my car so it's nice to have it in the MO as well. They agreed to swap our Draw Tite hitch, and we swapped the mats although they are tan. I might try some of these Weathertechs you guys have been talking about and I want to add the window and bug deflectors like we had on the '04.
I believe this '05 is a CA model based on the NAV settings. DON'T FORGET TO CLEAR YOUR NAV HISTORY AND YOUR HOMELINK WHEN YOU TRADE! Is there any difference in the emissions?
For people reading this forum and trying to decide if a Murano is for you, let my wife and I be an example of happy customers. We've owned several different makes and models over the years, and the Murano and the Miata are the only two that I actually considered buying essentially the same model again. That's because both do their intended purpose better than any other car on the market and they do it with little hassle. The lesson learned was this time we bought the 100k transferable warranty. Hopefully, by then, an aftermarket or rebuilt option will be available for the CVT and AWD issues.
Thanks to all who post the invaluable information in these forums! |

Well I figured I'd do a 1 month update on the '05.
There are more little things that need attention on this one than our '04. One of the homelink buttons is cracked, the leather cover on the glove box is coming loose on one side, and the cup holder cover doesn't work all that well. Also, the leather on the door side of the driver's seat is starting to crack. I gave it good dose of Leatherique but I might go ahead and complain about it to the dealer. I had a Q45 that started like that; I didn't complain and at about 70k it cracked through. None are big deals but the previous owner must have been a little rough.
On-board computer says we are getting 23.2 mpg. Our average on the '04 with AWD was 23.5, so I had hoped for more from FWD only. I'm going to do a little looking around under the hood and make sure the tires are holding their pressures.
The backup camera really helps with the trailer!
I miss the window guards and the bug deflector from my old car. I'm probably going to add those to the '05.
The gray is a much better color than the silver. The tan interior is better than the black. Least for me.
The auto A/C seems to work a little better on this one. The fan doesn't try to blow you out right off the bat, and it doesn't seem to get as cool on a regular setting (could be the hotter interior).
Any tricks on MPG are most welcome! It's getting expensive out there...

| 23mpg is excellent for the MO. I get 16mpg on mine, with mostly city driving! |

I know I know, all take and no give.... I'm not the most chatty guy out there but I'll try to contribute a little more.
I do post on the Moto Guzzi site some if I can take credit for that.....
I'll try to get a few shots of the new MO this weekend :2: |
