Picked Up Merlot LE Yesterday - Click HERE for Original Thread
Old Grumpy
We wanted a merlot LE with the beige interior. None of the local dealers had that color combination and were not willing to dealer trade without a huge price increase so I found one and made the two hour drive to buy it. As we were test driving, I noticed a vibration in the steering wheel which felt like a wheel out of balance.
While I was completing the paper work, purchased for invoice, the service department found that a belt had broken in the tire causing the vibration. Naturally there were no spare 20" tires so they took a wheel and tire from another LE. All was fixed except when replacing the wheel and tire they neglected to calibrate the new wheel and tire to the ECM so the tire pressure monitoring system would read it. I did not noticed it until I was driving home that the TPMS light was on. After another visit to my local dealers service department to get that fixed all is well.
I think that this is the best car I have ever owned.:2:

Though I believe that my '05 SE is a great vehicle, I'm wondering if Nissan has done anything to improve the road noise in the '09? For a 30K+ vehicle, I want nothing more than the quiet hum of the engine. How quiet is the LE with the 20's?

Great handle:D Welcome and congrats on your fine wine on wheels!

theeduc8tor; I don't think that road noise has anything to do with the car as much as it has to do with tires and inflation pressure in them.
What tires are you running on your MO and the pressure? Are they the Eagle LS?

At least you picked the right color... :D

The 09 Murano is the quietest vehicle I have driven. Granted, my two most recent vehicles were a convertible and a Grand Am so my frame of reference might be a bit skewed. I don't have any experience with the first gen Murano to compare, but to me the 09 Murano is very quiet on the road :D

Let's see, living in the Southwest, I keep the tires at about 35psi. Yes, they are the Goodyear Eagle LS's that come on the SE. I'm reluctant to buy new tires because the end of my lease is coming up. I'm guessing that my trade-in inspection will require that I buy new tires.
Like I said...for 36K+, I want tomb-like silence.

Seemed very quiet when I test drove one, but not the 20s. And I'm used to a very noisy car.
BikerJohn
I don't think you will get anything "tomb-like" silence from any sort of a Cross-Over or SUV no matter how much you pay. Unless.......it's a "Tombmobile":D :D :D
For a silent ride you may interest yourself in a luxury car......:4:

Actually, the Buick Enclave is extremely quiet inside. But it's true that crossovers tend to be louder because of the open cargo area.

The biggest impact the cabin noise I've noticed on the Muranos is the Sunroof.
We drove a loaner (back in Dec) for a week before ours came in... the loaner had no sunroof, but ours does. Anyway, the first thing I noticed in the car with the 'roof was how much louder than the other one it actually was.
I'm about to buy a second Mo ('09 this time) and you can bet I'm skipping on the sunroof.
Old Grumpy
I have a sunroof and have no wind noise when it is closed. I had the dealership remove the cargo roof cross rails and that reduced wind noise when the roof is open. By removing the cross rails might have eliminated wind noise with the roof is closed.

excellent suggestion, i'll try that on my wife's
