Labels on Nissan parts - Click HERE for Original Thread

Does any know if ALL nissan parts have numbers somewhere directly on the product?

I ask because I"ve been using Nissan air filters (among other parts) for ever. Today I purchased a new airfilter and noticed the following which was different from perivous purchases:

1. The airfilter was not in a box but rather a plasitc bag. There was a Nissan label and part number on the outside of the bag.

2. The airfilter did'n't have any part numbers on it, while the old filer and others have had the part number on the side of the filter.

3. The new airfilter has the filter edged by metal peices while my Nissan old filter had sythenitic pieces around the edges.

Any thoughts?

From my past experience replacing parts; all parts purchased from my Nissan parts counter all had inked numbers stamp on the items.
The in-cabin filter I replaced last summer also had a stamp and came in a box.
Did you acquire your parts from a Dealer? I wonder if they are soucing their parts from different manufacturers? Hopefully they are made to at least the same standards.
How did it install; same or more difficult?

Gonzo-

It is possible that your dealer is purchasing generic air filters and relabeling them for resale. If that is the case, then that is deceptive. :3:

I would think that if it was a true OEM part it would have the part number printed, stamped, or molded in to it.

I purchased them from a Dealership.... I may call Nissan and see what they say. The airfilter installed without issue.

Just a note on an experience I had with a "New" Nissan. I bought a program 300Zx t/t in '90. While washing it one time I noticed "Nissan" in letters about a foot tall across the hood. It was very faint like a hologram or something.

I called a friend that was the parts manager at Nissan and asked if they marked all factory nissan parts with holograms. He said no and stopped by later. He found under the "Nissan" lettering "Grand Prix of Tampa Bay." It had been a pace car. Man, it must have been massaged some as it was faster than any other t/t I ever ran into.

On the driver door he also noticed faint stripes running near the bottom of the door. Inside the front door edge was a small bit of aqua tape that must have been the color of the graphics.

So I called NNA... of course useless.... they couldn't give me a straight answer and suggested I call the dealership and ask???? Call the dealership and ask?!?!?!?! What did they think they would say...."Oh well we labeled the plastic bag as a nissan part but the part is not really a Nissan part". :3:

Come on NNA. So I went to another dealership to look at an airfilter... as I was walking in I realized it was owned by the same company as the other dealership. Sure enough same part. When I have time I might try another dealership and just look at the part for sanity.

Wasn't there someone on this board that work for Nissan? Perhaps they would know.

gonzo, is the filter that you purchased somewhat oiled? as long as it is, you should be alright. if it's just dry paper with a metal edge(i see a lot of these cheepo filters) get rid of it asap and find a genuine nissan filter. it should either be red with part numbers and nissan logos all over the edges or a tan type oiled paper with either a black or orange gasket(newer ones have an orange gasket). the reason i say to get rid of it is because the plain paper filters allow a tonne of fine particles to get through and it fouls the MAF sensor. almost everytime we have to replace a MAF sensor, there is a cheepe generic paper filter in the air box. 20 bucks on a genuine filter is cheep insurance.

not all nissan parts have part numbers stamped on them...it's a pain in the butt especially if your looking to replace it and your parts advisor is a little...off.
