This is my sad history. I hope this is not a general issue.
I got my new SL 4 weeks ago.
After 1 week driving it, I noticed that the front bumper was having an issue between the union of the bumper and the head light.
It was kind of loose. I take the car to the dealership and originally I was told that the clip that attach the bumper to the structure of the car was defective.
After 1 week waiting to receive the part from Dallas (I live in Houston), they finally called me to bring the SUV in to the body shop. After 6 hours of work the replaced the clip and told me everything was fixed
4 days later, the same issue, after driving for about 2 minutes the upper right corner of the bumper starts to get out of alignment and detach from the car structure again.
I took it again this morning and they told me about 4.pm that they need to replace the whole bumper for a new one. Can you believe it? I 30$k brand new car with only 800 miles and it is going to need a new bumper. After a lot of complaining they brought the GM, and the Director of Service to talk to me. I was asking for my money back!
They told me they will fix it and it will look like brand new again, but who knows.
I then talked to the person in charge of the body shop and told me he believes the new bumper will fixed the issue, but that he is not sure about it. It could be something else creating the issue.
They ordered the replacement part from Atlanta because it was not in stock in any Texas dealership.
I am planning on calling the Nissan 1800 number to fill a formal complain about this
If you hear from anybody having a similar issue, please let me know.
If you can give me any kind of recommendation it will be also highly appreciated. What other options do we have as customer against situations like this? If they found that the new bumper does not fix the problem, can I demand for a new car?
thanks a lot

My recommendation? Take a deep breath and relax. It really is not a "BIG issue".
I would not worry too much about it. You obviously have a dealer that is understanding and willing to work with you to fix the problem. Granted, it is a little inconvenient to have to bring the car in several times for the repair, but your dealer did make a sincere effort to fix it the first time.
The bumper is affixed to the car using a dozen or so clips and a couple or screws. Your original bumper may not have been molded properly and one of the mounting holes may not have lined-up properly. Let's see how the new bumper fits.

relax! It is just a bumper..........they will fix it and you will not even know the problem was there.............
To cheer you up - my new $50k car spent 2 days in body shop for exactly the same issue! Front bumper alignment.....this things happen. SHould not but they do happen. |

For now, give them a chance. Remember, nothing is perfect, but if they can make it right, then let them do it.
IF it doesn't end up fixing it, then you know you have a bigger problem and THAT is the time to question whether your getting screwed or not.
Replacing the bumper is a pretty simple solution. Doesn't affect the frame or any electrical/mechanical parts, it's just a plastic piece. There might have just been some weird defect with the one put on your car for some reason, and a brand new one should match perfectly and you'll never know the difference.
Hey, at least your dealer is willing to do it! If you read up on this forum about Nissan Customer [Dis-]Service, you'll learn that most dealers would have insisted that it was normal and they wouldn't have done ANYTHING to help you out.
To be fair, I understand your frustration. Nothing like spending a ton of hard-earned money and then find a really annoying problem like this. But just remember, even $100k vehicles have some manufacturing problems once in a while, so as long as it gets repaired satisfactorily just chalk it up to building character! ;) |
