Seat Belt Problems - Click HERE for Original Thread
Hatman52
First post to the forum -- been lurking for a few months absorbing info, as we were looking to buy a Murano. Picked up a black/black 2004 SL AWD loaded with all the goodies this past weekend and so far really love it.

However, one thing that's driving both my wife and I crazy are the shoulder belts seem to be *extremely* sensitive. If you try to lean forward, even slowly, the belts lock you in place. Often times it's hard to even put the belts on as just trying to pull it out, it locks up. I understand how inertia reels work, but this is occurring just cruising down the road, or even when the vehicle is parked. Both driver and passenger belts do the same thing.

So, my question to the list is this: is this a "Murano thing", or do we have problems with the inertia reels in both belts?

I remember noticing that at first. Murano seems particularly sensitive. I just figured it was because I was used to older (10+ years) cars that were much harder to make lock up.

Seems I have gotten used to it or something, though, because I hardly ever notice it anymore.

Welcome to the forum.

Since both front belts behave the same way, it is doubtful both are defective.

I have had the seatbelts lock only once or twice. I think it is something you get used to after awhile so you handle them differently.

Maybe you can adjusting the height of the shoulderbelt to see if that affects how sensitive the belts are. Usually the belts are prone to locking if you adopt a driving style where you brake suddenly a lot, but accelerate slowly. The locking mechanisms are driven by inertia.

Isn't that what is it suppose to do?? To lock up?? Or is just to tight?
