A new member infobloke reported in another thread that he spoke with a Mister Transmission guy who claimed they do repair work on the MO's CVT. The Mister Transmission rep went so far as to say he had even replaced the steel belt on one CVT.
While I wish it were true, I find this very hard to believe.
JATCO-USA has made no announcement that they have authorized any US or Canadian companies to repair the CVT.
Can any of our Canadian members confirm this??
Is Mister Transmission country-wide or regional? Are they a reputable chain?

| They are a national chain, so they do have a relatively good structure to allow for adequate training, and could feasibly stock the parts. My dealer did mention a 100k mile belt replacement (definitely the CVT belt). Is this a service that Nissan does at their dealerships? If so, perhaps this is the 'work' that the Mister Transmission shops will do. |

No, Nissan does not replace the CVT belt at the dealerships. All repairs are being done by JATCO - USA.

There is no such thing as a 100k belt replacement on the Murano. The CVT belt does not ever have to be replaced, and the engine has a timing chain, which also does not need replacement. The spark plugs are rated for 105,000 miles though. |

I sent two emails to the Mister Transmission headquarters and have not yet received a reply. I think it is safe to assume I will not be getting a response.
Does Mister Transmission service the MO's CVT?? If any of our Canadian brethren can shed some light on this, it would benefit many others.

I have not heard of MR. T working on CVT's. Would be interesting to see if there is any news from them.
I think the belt that manitoba murano was referring to is the serpentine belt for the alternator; AC and water pump..... |

| I doubt any specialty transmission shop will work on CVTs yet. They do not seem to break down enough for it to be economically feasable to train techs how to do it. |

Eric-
Thank you for telling me something I already know.
As I indicated earlier, this thread is directed to our Canadian members who may have first-hand experience with Mister Transmission. Anything other than a first-hand confirmation is simply speculation.

Lets not get into an argument where people are posting information that has already been posted above - you do this all the time and rarely acknowledge the original poster. I was just chiming in with my opinion in regards to the infrequent repair history of the CVT as mentioned in various Nissan press releases, so sorry if it was redundant info. |

I just phoned up our local Mr. T and ask "do you service Nissan Murano's CVT transmission"?
The answer I got was "Yes; we do". The person on the other line also ask; "What do you need done to it?" I just said that I was looking into buying a Murano.
So; I phoned up another Mr. T locally and asked the same question. This mechanic told me straight out "No; we don't touch them". He asked why and I told him that I was looking at buying a used MO. He said "I would stay away from them until all the bugs are worked out".
He also mentioned that they tried to do work on it a few years ago on one and that they were not able to find supplies or parts for it. He mentioned straight out that I would be looking at around $6200.00 + tax for a new CVT tranny from the dealer. The one they were working on ended up getting a used CVT from a wreckers in the US.
So; I would assume that it's a safe bet that they they do NOT work with CVT's.
The first guy did not sound as experienced as the second mechanic. The second mechanic was very straight forward with his answers and he also went on to tell me that Saturn's Vue's transmission is a problem one also and that it costs $9200.00 from the dealer. Apparently a lady friend of his had one that was going bad and the dealer told him to tell her to "sell that car" before it goes bad....
So; there's my bits worth from the great white north eh!:D |

Excellent!! That was the information I was looking for! It's very possible the guy infobloke spoke to was shooting from the hip, just like the first guy you spoke to.
Although I am glad we got this cleared up, I am a little disappointed. I was hoping someone other than Nissan/JATCO was getting into the CVT repair business. It is a crime that after 5 years we are still dealing with the Nissan/JATCO monopoly. :3:
Thanks for following-up on this.

Thank you for pointing out the fact that I "do this all the time" and "rarely acknowledge the original poster". What is it that I do all the time? And who did I not acknowledge in this thread?
And here I was thinking that I was a contributing member with some fresh insight on a thread that I initiated and updated. Thanx for setting me straight.

Japanese (or Japan) Automatic Transmission Company, I think. |

Wikipedia states:
"Jatco
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
JATCO (ジヤトコ幄塀氏芙, "Japanese Automatic Transmission Company") is a subsidiary of Nissan which manufactures automatic transmissions for automobiles. Originally, Mazda was also a partner.
History
The modern JATCO was formed in October 1999 after Nissan spun their AT/CVT (automatic transmission/continuously variable transmission) production into a company called TransTechnology, Ltd. The combined company settled on JATCO Ltd. in April, 2002. Mitsubishi Motors followed Nissan's lead, spinning off Diamondmatic in April 2002, only to have this acquired by Jatco and integrated one year later.
Nissan, and thus Jatco, had long been supplying Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Isuzu, Suzuki, BMW, Volkswagen, and Land Rover. However, once it was independent, Jatco quickly began supplying other automakers:
December 1999 ! Hyundai Motor Company
January 2001 ! Jaguar Cars
December 2001 ! London Taxis International
January 2002 ! Ford Europe
April 2002 ! Renault Samsung Motors
April 2002 ! Ford Lio Ho
April 2004 ! Changan Ford
December 2005 ! DaimlerChrysler
Today, products from nearly every auto maker have used Jatco transmissions, with the notable exceptions of Honda Motor Company, who makes their own transmissions, and Toyota Motor Company, who has always used transmissions made by Aisin, a subsidiary of Toyota. |

There are always transmissions for sale on Ebay (and I imagine all over).
I wonder how difficult it would be for a properly equipped mechanic to just swap out a bad transmission for a "new" one?
Tranny for sale... |
|
|
| BikerJohn |
I would think that an experienced mechanic could swap it out.
I saw the add. Interesting that the tranny comes with a "1 year warranty"...... what are they going to do if it breaks down in 1 year?
I guess you'll get a pro-rated refund since it can't be repaired:D |
