What year and model is your MO?
My owners manual states to contact a Nissan dealer to reset the key fobs. However; I'm sure that some else on this forum might have some experience with that. |

chevez-
If this is a brand-new MO I would go back and demand a second remote.
Out of curiosity, what makes you so suspicious of the dealer?

after many conversations on the phone, and doing the deal, he delivered the murano to my house personally on trailer for me since it was in another city, and he's a friend of a friend. he obviously felt comfortable around me and we got a long great, he then proceeded to tell me if i wanted to turn back the odometer he could do it after a couple years. that plus a couple other things makes me feel leary, like he originally said there was 2 key fobs, and i only got one. so i get the feeling he has the other, and if he also has a key cut, he could easily steal the vehichle in a couple months with out any problem. im just a little uncomfortable, and want to be cautious. ive bought 3 keyfobs off ebay, and i will program them to the car along with my original, that way i have the only 4 fobs that could access the car.
my only question is, if he has a key cut, the vehichle could still be stolen without the fob right?? |

You can cut keys for the car but my understanding is that within each new key that comes with the car there is a chip inside that will enable or disable the "Immobilizer System".
Here's a quote from the manual : "The Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System will not
allow the engine to start without the use of the
registered Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System
key."
New cars normally come with three keys; 2 black ones each with it's own key fob and a red valet key that unlocks the door and starts the car but does not open the lockable storage compartments.
I think that the key only controls the opening and closing of the doors. It's the actual key that operates the Immobilizer system.
I would check with your Nissan Dealer if you are truly unsure.
I would be very suspicious of anyone that sells you the car that also asks if you would like to reverse the ODO since that is against the law.
Not to say that he did; but makes you think about the ODO on the car delivered?? |

well i know he hadnt done it cause he got it for me from auction and i saw the papers. i tok it anyway cause its in mint shape except for one dent on the door. it drives well, and had only one previous owner. its black on black fully load with everything but navigation. im happy with it so far, but its only been one day....time will tell.

| If he got it from auction; it may be that "he" only received one key himself. |

possibly...but he made a point to say there was 2 keyfobs, and i only got one, that combined with some of the other things said, is what makes me lean on the cautious side.
