Does anyone have any pics of the wider tires on their stock rims? Mine needs tires now and I may put wider ones on iy idk yet. I have seen threads for 255 and 265 so what does everyone reccommend?

Take a look in the gallery. There are tons of pics of MOs with different tire/wheel combinations.

I've had absolutely no problems with 265/60/18 - they are wider and about 1.5% taller (recommend stay within 5%).

I have 265/60s I love them. The mo def drive better over the bumps

If you visit your tire shop(not Walmart or Sears....); they can determine to the level of "fitment" the stock rims will handle. However; keep in mind that if you also change the profile; that will change the overall diameter of your tire and will affect your speedo readings.:4:

One question for everyone.... do you think going with a wider tire could have long term effects on the CVT? I know its a reach but I'm planning on keeping the MO for another 6+ years and surely don't want to compromise the CVT due to added friction.

Thoughts?

I dont have an answer for that, although I think Im gonna try the 255/60/18 I dont get alot of snow here so traction is not an issue it would be more for a little different look amd maybe a little softer ride.

I don't think it would make much of a difference - if anything the weight of the vehicle and wind resistance places a higher load on the powertrain.

Not at all.

I too have been running a 265/60-18 and, IMO, this is what the Murano should have come with. It makes a large visual difference, as well as a handling difference for the Murano.

As for extra strain... I would believe that maybe the wheel bearings might take a little (and we're talking minute levels) of extra burden, but the CVT would not under normal driving conditions. It's not as if we're able to peel-out and burden the transmission with the sudden impact of when the tire bites the pavement again.

Ok so I am fixing to buy some tires today that are new take-offs, they are a little bigger than mine but I measured and I think they will fit. They are 255/70/18 off a new Wrangler. 5 tires with the stock wheels for 500.

Those tires are too tall (by 1") for the Murano - they will fit the rim, but your speedometer will be off by quite a bit - about 6.8%. In other words, if your speedometer reads 65mph, you'll actually be doing around 70mph. I would avoid these tires.

This is what the chart says, I measured the distance between the strut and the tire. Im fine with the speedo being off as long as they they fit the rim and clear the fender wells.
DentsandDings
My gps will show my speed anyway but if they are 1" taller on top they should clear the strut and should work but we will see.

Most people, when opting for new tires with a different aspect ratio, move to a lower ratio (i.e. 70 --> 65, 65 --> 60, etc.). The higher aspect ratio may adversely affect the handling of your MO.

It may but I have it off road a good bit and I would rather have a little taller than shorter tire, to help keep my wheels in good shape. Plus its a money factor. I can buy 5 wheels and tires for 500 and then sell the wheels for 300 or so and have 200 in 5 tires. I am also picking a set or 245/50/18s up as well. So either way I will have some that fit but I would rather go up a little on size.

You drive the MO "off road a good bit"?? You bought the wrong car.

The MO has no skid-plates and a lightweight AWD system. If you venture any further than you backyard you are just asking for trouble. If you don't believe me, read about the MO's off-road prowess in the OFF-ROAD section of this forum. Oh, that's right, there is no OFF-ROAD section.

Be careful, be very careful when taking your MO off the pavement. The transfer case is the expensive weak link in the drivetrain.

Yeah I know its not really built for that and I figured the CVT would crap out first but I dont go crazy with it. I just know another inch or so of groung clearance would have helped me out a few times. And the only reason I bought it was bc I got a good deal on it. Its a work car to me and it was a spur of the moment buy. I never even looked at them before that day.

Ahh, that's a different story. I thought it was a brand-spanking-new 2009 MO. In that case, have a ball!!

Just keep an eye out for leaks around the output shaft seals on the CVT and x-fer case. They have been known to fail, and the resulting oil loss can cause the internals to end up in the bottom of the cases.
