Would definitely look better with a painted grille, either body color or black. I personally like my ('03) black grille with the black Magnetbra....

You know...based on the fact that you posted not one, but TWO new threads in the '09 Forum about how you would NOT consider buying one and don't care for the front end, I'd say you are somewhat jealous or trying to justify keeping your 2003.

It is widely accepted that the 09 is a major upgrade in almost every way to the 1st generation. The redesign is a matter of opinion, I happen to think the front end is much more aggressive and a daring design that sets it apart from most other things on the road. The reduction in cargo space is based on sloped rear hatch and limits stackability, you'll probably not notice it unless you load the thing up to max capacity.

I'd suggest you post in the 1st gen forum about how much you enjoy your 03 instead of coming in the 09 forum saying how you wouldn't consider it and don't care for the styling.

Actually, this is the right place to post comments about the 2009 front-end.

I have a 2005 and, like ekaxel, do not like the 2009's front-end. But I also don't like the look of the 2003-2007 front-ends either. For some reason Nissan just could not get it right, in my opinion. The rest of the car is fine, but they just never nailed it on the front-end.

1. Do you have an '09? Or is this just the immature response of another wannabe?
2. I am definitely NOT jealous!. If I wanted an '09, I would buy one.

Yeah, a black grille would look just swell with my Tinted Bronze paint job.

I just can't get over how these threads keep coming up- the back is boring; the grill stinks. I rarely commute for aesthetic reasons, and I doubt that there are many people out there that are much different. But if you want to hate the grille then fine. Personally I prefer a grille that looks like more than a glorified pasta strainer.

Ekaxel,

Yes I did buy an '09 Murano. And no, I did not feel my response was immature. If anything, I felt your penchant for expressing your dislike regarding the 2009 model by starting not one, but two new threads was rather foolish.

The 2009 Murano was unveiled at the 2007 LA Auto show just over 5 months ago this week. Numerous comments and expressions on the styling have been beaten to death on many internet sites, including this one. For you to come on and post those 2 threads that seemed redundant and unneccessary compelled me to respond in the fashion I did.

Enjoy your 2003...I will enjoy my 2009.

It must be the elections.....

I remember the good old days when the "first generation" MO members's most heated argument was over who had the most number of posts! Everyone respected everyone else's opinion, no matter how harsh, because after all, this was the right place for it, either to agree or to disagree.

Personally, I never liked the grill on the first generation MO either. But then it slowly grew on me. It was like having an ugly kid. Perhaps the ugliest in the crowd, but you love it because it is yours! I imagine some of the second generation MO owners feel the same way.....:)

ekaxel-

I am sorry, but Musky300 is correct. I checked the forum by-laws and section 7.3.2.4 states you are not allowed to have two separate threads, discussing the same topic, running concurrently. That's a no-no. If you look back you will see that we never had more than one thread at time discussing the CVT, wheel upgrades, Nissan's lack of customer support , or arrogant members. Because you know two threads at a time can be too much for some people to digest.

Furthermore, section 4.2.6.7b makes it very clear that no discussions concerning the MO's aesthetics can occur after 120 days from the last major auto show. Again, you violated the rules.

I mean it's not like you have been on this forum since day one and played a key role in developing it into one of the most informative and friendliest automotive forums on the net. Right?

So, ekaxel, get your act together, alright? You don't want us to have to invoke rule 9.9.9.9b, do you?

Look...I've been on many Internet Automotive message boards for the past 10 years. I could easily give you at least 5 different sites that I've been a member since the late 90's/early 2000's with a combined post count probably exceeding 10,000 posts.

I'm not telling you this to brag, just pointing out that I have plenty of experience on the politics and general common sense of these forums. Unfortunately, you also see a lot of people reduced to bickering like children and playing name-calling and sarcasm jokes. I get that and come to expect it.

I only came on this board because I purchased a 2009 Murano and wanted to get informative information about my vehicle...not exactly someone telling me in one thread that they think their 2003 is better and they won't be buying a 2009, and then turning around and saying they don't like the front end of the 2009.

But I digress...you are right...their are no laws, afterall this is the Internet. I know that you can post whatever you want, even if I and other people think it is pure crap. Just because I don't have 5,xxx posts does not mean I am naive or misinformed however.

M300-

You are making my point for me. Many of our members, including myself, have been participants on several forums so we are well aware of the general attitudes exhibited in many of them. Most members will tell you that this is one of the friendliest and most mature forums because of the respect shown to members, both new and old. There is virtually no name-calling, no slamming, no flaming. Admittedly there is quite a bit of sarcasm, but it is all good-natured.

There have been plenty of heavy debates on the MO's styling. Personally, I've never liked the front end of the MO, and will be a critic of it until Nissan finally gets it to where I like it. Does that mean I can't post my opinions on the front-end anymore?

This really is a friendly forum. Get a feel of it and you will see what I mean. This is unlike most other automotive forums out there. You'll see what I mean.

I began to really dislike my -05 Pathfinder LE which is why I traded it in for the 'Mo. Guess I'll have to go over to the PF forum and start a ruckus.;)

That said, I kinda like the "Storm Trooper" grille on my 09 LE. In fact, I like it better than the grilles on the older 'Mo's.

I do think that Nissan could have done a better job on the rear hatch light treatment but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. We drove an -07 at the same time we test drove the -09 and there is a distinct difference between how the two drive. The newer model is noticeably quieter, better throttle response, crisper handling and WAY more comfortable and luxurious. It was a no brainer for us to buy the -09 even though we could get a screaming deal on the older model as a closeout.

As far as the AWD transfer case being the same, I have to question that since Nissan upgraded to the "intuitive" all wheel drive. IMHO the reliability remains to be seen. I'll wait until the numbers come in before I start howling.

I can understand how a negative post about the 09 styling can provoke a similarly reaction from an 09 owner. I can also see how posting twice on the same topic can irritate some other members, especially if two separate discussion threads come from it, where only one is needed. Personally I do not see the need for the two threads in this case.

Let's put our subjective opinions of the various MO generations aside here and be nice. No need to give Musky300 a hard time about this either, as we can easily put ourselves in other people's shoes and see that negative opinions don't benefit anyone. Example - if a BMW X3 owner posted here about they do not like the Murano, how would the response be like? I mean, no one likes someone to come into their backyard and say negative things.

I agree - post counts mean nothing. Its the amount of useful information posted that counts, not posting for the sake of posting.

Eric-

Please explain to me what is wrong with ekaxel's post?

Owners have been modifying their grilles ever since the MO first hit the streets. There have been hundreds of posts on this very same topic. There is a poll currently underway elsewhere on this forum asking whether or not we like the grille painted black. So what is the big deal?

I have never been thrilled with the front-end styling of the MO. I have always wished that Nissan had done a better job on the grilles. I agree with ekaxel, the 2009 MO would look better with a painted grille. I also believed the 2005 MO should have had a different, body-colored grille. Do I have to limit my comments to the 1st-gen section of the forum?

Was ekaxel not qualified to make the observation because he owns a 2003 MO and not a 2009?

We have been critiquing the styling of the MO since 2003. Why the change now?

There is nothing wrong with his post. Did I say there was? There is also nothing wrong if someone objects to it, which I can understand since ideas like styling are very subjective.

I agree with his post about the grill being black or body coloured. However.. I can also see how people would find it silly he is making two posts about how he doesn't like the car. There have been numerous posts about the opinion of the new Mo and it would be more fitting to add to those than to create a new thread. Is it required by internet by laws? No. Is it proper netiquette? Yes. I dont know him, or any members of this site very well. I'm relatively new to this site having been here a month, I didn't think this guy is a jerk, I thought... Ok thanks for sharing why you aren't buying this car... I don't really care, but thanks. I come here to learn about the car, its problems, how to improve it. I don't come here to find out why someone is not buying it.

You guys are all a little crazy... Yes, there is a thing called free speech, but if you insult someone else's taste or judgement be prepared for them to exercise a little free speech of their own. Wow, it's easy to see how quickly we can get drawn into a "disagreement". Even "njjoe", a moderator", called another poster "class-less" in that other thread. :14:

We are all entitled to have our opinions, and to express them. Maybe we should avoid getting too personal about it, or taking things too personally too.

By the way... I love the '09 grille, and the chrome looks good on the glacier pearl. I like the "Storm Trooper" characterization. All of you guys are great and have posted some very interesting and useful info! Keep up the good work. :7:

This is the grill that belongs on the 09s Thank you E & G

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... I think it looks hideous. The aftermarket grille should be rounded to better flow with the MO's curves.

I'm with you guys, that E & G grille looks too "after market" for my tastes. Ya' know, the longer I have this 09', the better I like the new front end. What I especially get a kick out of with this new front end style, is how water runs off the hood (especially with a great wax job) and down through the various levels of the grille. Next time you wash your car, just watch how the water flows off the hood onto the grille and then flows from one level of the grille, down to the next as it moves toward the center, finally running off the car under the front Nissan emblem. It's like it was designed to do this. Very much a waterfall effect. OK, maybe tomorrow, I'll should talk about water flowing off the wheels. Take care!

As a proud owner of a 1st generation 2003 Murano, and one of the "Super Senior Members" of this forum. I have 2 things to say about the 2009 Murano....

1. What the hell happened to the 2008 Murano? :8: :8: :8:

2. I like the grill on the 2009.:D :D

Actually, I like everything about the 2009's. Especially the 20" wheels.....

I would buy one in a second.

We've been a Nissan family for more than 10 years and 6 cars... Owned every style of Altima, 2 Pathfinders and a Maxima. I had high hopes for the early Mo's but hated the toothy look of the grills and the dash instrumentation. I love the 09 styling! Mine's an LE, graphite with black leather, sunroof, nav... I think Nissan did it right with this one!

The bottom piece is OK, but the main grill replacement looks a bit cheesy. Not that I have anything against cheese, better on waffle fries than the Mo (IMHO). A bit pricey too.
