I have a gen 1 murano and the rear diff is starting to leak oil out.
Is this a big problem, should I not be driving it and get it repaired now or can it wait a while? |

| Do you know exactly where it is leaking out? Is it from the front "drive" shaft or out the sides where the wheel-driving shafts come out? Is it dripping or more like "sweating" the surface? Any photos would be of help. |

| Get it fixed as soon as possible. Running the rear diff dry could put pressure on the transfer case (if AWD engages, and since its automatic you never know) and damage the transfer and CVT! |

Is it where I have circled the photo of yours?
If so; that would be the drain plug in I'm not mistaken. There is a lower drain plug and slightly above that one is a filler plug.
The capacity on the fluid in the final drive is stated at 0.55L; (1-1/8 US pint; or 1.0 Imperial pint) so if you are leaking; I would take Eric's advice and have the level checked and determine where the leak is. Perhaps the drain plug needs tightening....it is an internal six-sided drain plug. Perhaps a large hex-head or allen key socket (metric) will fit.
The fluid type is API GL-5, Viscosity SAE 80 W-90. |
