| I am considering making my first upgrade to my 05 MO with Bose factory system by replacing all four door speakers with Infinity Reference 6022i’s and wanted to know if anybody has done this (or with any other Infinity speaker for that matter) and what their feedback may be. Also, is there any concern with the tweeters still working up on the dash once this is done? Lastly, if I eventually plan on tackling the job of replacing or adding to the Bose amp with an MTX four channel I already own, are there any concerns there? I am a total novice at this and any feedback/advice would be appreciated on this subject. Thank you. |

I have replaced all the door speakers with Infinity Kappa 60.7 Components and powered with a JL Slash 300x4 channel amp along with a JL stealth box and a JL Slash 250 mono amp. I disconnected the tweeters in the dash and the system sounds excellent.
I have posted pics in my gallery of tweeter placement in the doors. Did the entire component speaker install myself?
Had my amps and stealth box installed at a custom audio/video install shop instead of Best Buy or Circuit City. You will pay a little more but it was worth it since I got the run around from Best Buy.
He removed the boses amp and placed the 4 channel in its place and placed the 250 beside the sat radio receiver on the other side.
You should be able to find all the answers to any questions here on this site.
Best of luck to you. |

krellblue;
You will be ok to replace the speakers as long as they are 2 ohms. The Bose system runs on 2 ohm speakers. If they are 4 ohms; they won't sound as loud or full ranged.
You can either remove the factory connectors from the Bose speakers by "unsoldering" them (you'll see want I mean) or by cutting the speaker wires ahead of the connectors(and keeping it in case you go back to factory speakers if you get rid of the car) and wire up directly to your new speaker terminals.
You can leave the tweeters alone until you see how your new speakers sound. If you don't like the tweeters; just unplug the connectors up by the tweeter in the dash and leave it all there.
If you do decide to later install your MTX amp; I would highly recommend running new speaker and power lines throughout your car. Leave all the factory wiring; just in case.....
I've replaced all my speakers and have installed 2 MTX 4-Chl amps in the rear running my 6-1/2" MB Quart components in the front doors; 6-1/2" Hertz components in my rear doors; a set of 4" Hertz co-axles in my dash(where the tweeters used to be) and my 10" Energy Sub in a custom made enclosure in the trunk.
I had to mount the amps to the rear of the back seats since I have a full sized spare.
I left all the factory wiring and Bose amp in place in case I decide to keep my equipment. |

krellblue, let the games begin. It can be an addictive and expensive process, you always want to tweak just a bit more. What if I add this... and change out that. The only factory piece that remains in my system is the head unit.
There is a wealth of information on this site to step you through just about every phase of upgrading. The people here are very helpful. I was afraid to touch anything in my MO when I first began, now there is little I won't consider trying to tackle.
Good luck, enjoy the ride. |

I hope this isn't a redundant question, but i'd like to confirm that the Bose speakers in the doors are 6.5" (front and back)?
Also, are the door panels easy to take off to access the speakers?
thanks:) |

| I want to confirm with any 'S' owners that the front speakers are 6X9" and the rears are 6 1/2". I have an 07 'S'. |

If you have a BOSE system; all door speakers are 6-1/2" round speakers.
The front speakers are mounted on a 6 x 9 metal panel that is removable to accomodate 6 x 9's.
The Non-Bose system comes with 6 x 9's up front and 6-1/2" rounds in the rear.
The door panels are pretty easy to take off. There is 3 screws to be removed. They are located 1- door opening lever(pop off the square black plastic cap) and remove the escushion to expose the second screw; 2-at the top of the interior door handle where it comes up and meet the interior panel and 3-the round cap where the window/lock buttons are located(pop off the cap).
After removing those 3 screws; slowly pry off the "mushroom" type pins starting at the bottom of the door. Get your hand or "tool" close the each pin and "pop" them out from the door and go up the door. The top of the door is "hooked" over along the top window ledge so lift the door up to unhook.
You will then see the opener mechanism that will need to be disconnected; also disconnect the interior light plug and the window/door lock connector.
That should do it.:4: |

Non-Bose speakers are 4 ohms. If you are adding an amp; I would highly recommend changing them out. |

Amping them are the plan.
Well I bought my speakers and will be throwing them in this weekend.
I put the OEM Tweeters in and they make a huge difference than without. I will probably still keep them in because 1) just bought them :) 2) cause I like the sound. |
