Octane: (91 vs 87)??? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I am considering the purchase of the 09 Murano. The recommended octane is 91, but the owners manual states you can use 87. I prefer that my daily driver not have to use premium gas. The owners manual says you might expect some performance changes if you use a lower octane.

For those of you who are not using 91, have you noticed a difference in the performance, or any other differences?

Is it safe to run 87 all the time?

I mix in a tank of 87 now and then, but try to run premium most of the time. I did the same on my Max that I had before. Around here, if you can find 91, it's only about $.10 more the 87. Most stations in this area cary 92 or 93, which tends to run about $.20 more. Both Costco and Sam's tend to charge less for premium - many times I can get premium for not much more than what other stations are charging for 87.

There are a number of threads on the topic, and many indeed run 87 most of the time with no issues.
