Front Seat Removal - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hey guys this is my first post here. I read through the driver seat thread and all, did some searching and still got a couple questions. The back bracket on my seat snapped on the rear drivers side, im sure everyones familiar with that. Anyways, nissan wants 1100 etc and Id like to just remove the seat myself and have a friend weld it but im afriad of the SRS light. Can I successfully remove the seat without setting that light off?? From what ive gathered I can unplugg the battery and wait a bit, remove all harnesses and bolts, but still wasnt clear on the SRS light thing. If not then does anyone know how it can be reset or the price a dealer would charge to do so? Il try to put off removing the seat until I can hear a lil bit of feedback, im sure someone here has some answers. Any info is appreciated, thanks guys!:)

Well, it was welded and just broke again. Did most of u guys just bite the bullet and replace the seat? I dont really know what can be done at this point. Some feedback would be helpful if anyone has anything to say, thanks.

I don't know of anyone who has repaired the seat. Most, including myself, had "rocking chair" issue addressed while under warranty and from what I understand, they just replace the whole frame.

I have that exact same issue, in the exact same spot. I was planning on getting it welded, I can't believe a weld wouldn't work.

No way I'm gonna spend $1,000 +. I'll look for a seat on a junkyard and take the bracket.

Dontcha love dealer pricing? They wanted to charge me $400 for front brakes!

The seat was welded but broke again. I may just have to suck it up and pay the dealer, any other suggestions?

I got the seat welded for the second time now. This time I added an extra bracket for support and it is holding better than ever. A friend of mine took the seat out and the welding itself costed me 8USD.

Any chance of posting a photo of the fix that I can show to my welder?

Thanks!

In order to get a pic I will need to take out the seat. If I can get my friend to take it out then I will do a pic for you.

How did you manage the airbag light?
adiadrian
MO was not turned on. Disconnected then reconnected the cables and airbag light did not come on.

So the trick here is NOT TO turn the ignition switch on while airbag connector is disconnected. Did you have to disconnect the battery?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone know if the driver's seat has a plastic piece that covers the side of the seat nearest the center console. (It would cover where the seatbelt buckle bolts into the seat.) Got my car back after a rear-end accident where they had to replace the seat frame, but I don't know if I'm missing this part or not.

Ignition off, key in my pocket, but battery connected!

No right side plastic

Thanks! Good info as I'll need to remove the front seats to install some sound deadening throughout the MO. Nice to know that I can disconnect the seat without having an airbag go off in my face! :)

Ah rtking... be careful that is not what he said.

Air bag did not go off, but it might be better to be on the safe side to disconnect the battery. My friend who is a mechanic did it, so he was very careful and did not need to disconnect the batters to get the welding done. Go safe!

It is always a good idea to disconnect the battery and wait an hour for the residual power to go away before any work in done on the SRS system, But I wonder if that will cause an issue with "idle" memory where you would have to have the dealer perform the "idle re-learn" procedure for the engine to run correctly again.

Disconnecting the battery for s long period of time did not cause any problems for me but it has for some. Just something to keep in mind.

I need to remove the front drivers seat to repair the bracket.

Normally, I'd just start unbolting things (I'm like that). After reading about the airbage module and whatnots, I'm wondering....

Are there a specific instructions available to safely remove the seat? What to disconnect in what order, etc????

Njjoe? ZMan?, Gonzo? Anyone? Whatcha got?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know of any special instructions. I don't have the manual in front of me but from what I remember there is a yellow/orange connector for the air bag and then another normal one for power to the seat motors. I recommend disconnecting the battery and waiting a little while for residual power to go away, and then unplugging the connectors before removing the bolts that hold the seat down.
