I'm finally starting to live with the warning labels on the visors, but now have started noticing small VIN labels all over the car. There are two on every door opening (door jam and door edge panel) not to mention other places throughout the car. Do other 09" owners have these labels too or am I just the recipient of a "label happy", Friday afternoon worker on the Nissan assembly line? Is this a "Nissan thing" or do other car manufacturers label inner body panels? If so, for what purpose? Are they important to keep on? I's not like the numbers are stamped or etched in, it's just a sticker. My daughter's super Conair 1875 hair dryer is warming up as I type, so if there is not a GOOD reason to have them there…
Take care!

Most all body parts now have the VIN engraved or a stick on label. There are laws in most states, and now maybe a federal law, that require the labels. This is because so many cars are being stolen and stripped for parts, and now those parts can be traced back to original vehicle.
Since the law requires the labels, I would recommend you not remove any.
As a side note, remember the OKC bombing? The U-Haul truck with the explosives was almost totally destroyed. However, some of the surviving drive train and smaller parts had an engraving of the VIN number. That is how the authorities were able to trace the vehicle and the person who rented it so quickly. |

rwm3100,
Now THATS a good reason, thanks for info. I'll turn off the hair dryer. Take care!

| On the flip-side; buyers look for VIN labels to ensure the vehicle is "whole" and has not had panels replaced from accidents. BMW had them 20+ years ago on all their panels for that reason. |
