| Hey, I searched the forum for information on this, and didn't see any results. Has anyone thought of or tried powder coating their stock alloy rims? I'd rather not spend $3k on new ones (as I don't mind the stock ones), and a friend knows a place that will do it for $40/rim. I think I want to go black rims on my silver MO...anyone else had luck? |

| sounds like a good deal, i haven't seen it done yet. That would be a great combo. I have been looking into it but want to go gunmetal on the silver Mo. I thought about spraying them first to see if I like it. I did that with my winter rims on my IS300 and they turned out great and have held up well. If you do it please post up some pictures! |

A good powder coat job will be very durable and I think it would look great! Does the cost of the job include prepping the rim(ie-sanding or sand-blasting)?
Do remember to let your tire installer know that they are powder-coated so they will take care not to chip the perimeter's edge..... |

Yeah, apparently the $40/rim includes sandblasting and prep. I probably need to do more research on the company (once my friend lets me know the name of it :)). Good call on the chipping edges tip.
If I end up doing it, I'll definitely post pics. Thanks!
EDIT: I wanted to see how this would look, and after looking through the forums, I found HwnMurano's gallery which had a vehicle exactly like mine. Using some hollywood trickery, I made the image below, which is how I would envision it.
My girlfriend says it looks sinister, but maybe that's what I'm going for :17: |

yes that is the exactly the look! I am kind've anti chrome. I would love to paint the grill and headlight housings the same color as the rims, I think that would give a great unique look.
40 bucks a wheel, plus the cost to unmount and mount the tires, can't get any cheaper than that for "new" wheels! |

| No offense but it doesn't impress me... but that is me. Perhaps if you had a black MO. |

| I always have wanted to make the stock wheels black chrome but when I investigated the price, it was wayyy to expensive. But the powder coat would look great too. Definitely post pictures if you get it done! |

I wonder if you can even tape-out the perimeter so that it will reveal the original silver paint around the rim once painted?? Or, silver spokes with black perimeter.
Ahh; the creative juices over-flowith...... |

| Its looks alright, The centercaps can't be powder coated there plastic... (I might be wrong) I think the SL rims either 03-05 or the 06-07 would look much better then the 03-05 SE versions pictured. |

Obviously my rims arent the stocks, or powder coated. But it is silver with black rims. Just thought you may want to get another picture of what it will sort of look like.
