Hi All,
Been reading these forums since we got a 2003 in mid-April. I've read just about every thread in the Audio & Electronics forum and got some very good advice, so first of all thanks to everyone who contributes here and provides all this great information.
Unfortunately, I my first post here is regarding a problem I'm having installing a Curt trailer wiring harness. I've read all the threads here regarding this unit and was surprised to find that no one else had the problems I am having. First, the four pin connector didn't fit through the hole that leads to the outside of the vehicle. I had to shave off part of the connector with a razor to make it fit through. Second, they say to unplug the factory wiring and plug int their T-connect. There is absolutely no wiring to unplug anywhere. The wires run from the front of the car to the break lights with no connectors anywhere along the way (this is a US model, not Canadian).
I have read several posts here by people saying how easy it was to install these kits and was very surprised to see that no one else had these problems on a 2003. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I don't know what the Curt wiring harness is like, but the factory harness plugs into the rear wiring harness. You don't need to run any wires to the front of the car. There is a white power connector at the rear for the trailer hitch wiring harness. If you have trouble with routing the harness throught the floor to the outside, I recommend leaving the harness inside under the floor where the spare tire is located. Leaving the harness inside looks better and protects the harness from the elements. It is easy to run the harness to the ouside under the tailgate when needed using a short extension harness. |

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I am almost 100% sure that there are no harnesses to tap into. I have followed every inch of the brake light wiring and see nothing of the sort. Can you tell me exactly where yours were?
It almost appears that this is a Canadian model, which I know you have to splice into to do this, but I know that it was sold here in the US when new.
Thanks,

Still no closer to having the harness installed. I've e-mailed Curt and they are stonewalling me like Larry Sellers (extra points for anyone who gets that reference).
Anyone with a 2003 feel like digging apart the back of their SUV to see if there are any connectors present? |

George, thank you very much for this reply. I ended up contacting Curt directly who told me where the connectors were located. Funny thing is that I bought this kit from e-trailer.com and it never occurred to me to see if they had instructions like this on their site...

No problem at all, glad i could be of some help. Hopefully the install will go as smoothly as the video shows. I'm wanting to get my harness installed here sometime soon so I'll check for some feedback and see how other installs went. Good luck! |

Unfortunately for me our MO is a Canadian verison and does not have the "snap" and play kind of plug set up. All the wiring had to be "tapped" into the existing lines using a clam-shell type connectors.
Anyhow; great post! |
