After a long highway drive my 2003 Murano has started to make some funny noises. When the car accelerates it makes a whirring/humming noise that was not there before. It is speed sensitive so the faster I go, the higher pitched the noise is. What could it be? Wheel bearings?

i have on 07 murano sl 2wd and just brought mine in for a similar complaint. it sounds like the wheel of fortune noise.....like a card stuck in a bike spoke. as the wheel revolutions rise it becomes faster and faster than into a whir or hum. i also could hear a clicking noise from the front left when going over bumps. the dealer decided to order a new axle today and will cover it under warranty.

I remember some members complaining about a simillar noise which turned out to be a loose parking brake cable that was rubbing against the axle shaft. Have the dealer inspect and adjust the parking brakes.

I had an issue with my fuel dampner. It gave off that card stuck in the spoke sound that increased with engine rpm.

Oops...I meant fuel damper. Thanks Lightningrod.
I dont know the exact specifics about it. I do know its supposed to equalize the fuel line pressure so it is a steady stream. When its bad you start to get a ticking/clicking/whirring sound. The sound was engine rmp related for me. Low rpm=tick, Med.=fast click, High=a quiet whirring sound.

It could be a wheel bearing if it only happens when the vehicle is in motion (i.e. if you rev the engine there is no extra noise). If you hear a whining noise that coincides with the engine RPMs, it might be a bad alternator bearing - had that issue with my Maxima.

turns out it was the wheel bearing...also had to replace a tie rod.
