Camshaft sensor - Click HERE for Original Thread

Success...finally!! I have written before about a misfire during start conditions where the engine bucked and the exhaust would blow smoke. I also complained that the engine seemed to run louder and have less power.

The dealers response has always been "Everything is fine. We can't find any problems. Bring it in if it does it again...blah...blah...blah"

I've had it checked 5 times for the problem. I always received the same answer.

Then came an oil leak. I checked to see if it was leaking from the same spot as last time (oil pump o-ring or something like that) but that area was clean so I proceeded to looked everywhere. I found it. The oil was coming out of the camshaft position sensor.

After 2 trips to the dealer to get it fixed ( they didnt believe me the first time) I got it fixed under my extended warranty.

Wow. I have my old Murano back. That one sensor made the engine run alot smoother and quieter. It also put the pep back into the peddle. Upon further research I found the recall on the sensors back in 03. It listed most of my symptoms. It left me feeling kind of po'd that it was never considered for my problem.

For once, I am very grateful for an oil leak. If your engine revs louder and seems to have lost some power or misfires upon a start or restart, I would have them run a diagnostic on your Cam and Crank sensors just in case.

Thanks Ron.
