Need to Replace Stereo in 03 Murano - Click HERE for Original Thread

Long story short - burning smell, then no radio or CD. The CD player ejects and appears to play, but no sound. Guess I need to replace my head unit. Planning on doing it myself.

A few questions:

* I have a Bose system. Is the Clarion head unit what comes with this, or do I need to order something special from Bose?

* Is there a connection in the back so I can "iPod Enable" my stereo? Just looking to feed out an RCA or mini stereo cable so I can use any type audio device. Perhaps there are converters out there that use the SAT input?

* Where can I get a new head unit (assuming that's what I need). I also saw a guy on EBay that claims to repair units for $200.

* Anyone found any specialists in Los Angeles that could help me out?

* What would it take/cost to upgrade/add a subwoofer? Is it worth it? Can I do it myself?

Thanks!

I can answer the question regarding the AUX input - you can use a PAC audio adapter for that. Just search this forum for people who have installed the PAC adapter. I did it on mine and it was very easy.

yeah as far as the radio it's the whole complete unit and it's like $1600 from dealer i tried salvage yards and none were helpful....it turns out i just blew a fuse and very fortunate of course. but as far as replacing it, its very easy i found instructions in the forum and removal and installation is very easy. good luck.

Is the one you get from the dealer a Clarion too (is that the only brand available for the Bose system)? I want to make sure I'm not getting the cheap one if I find it on eBay.

Thanks for the PAC suggestion - I'm going to give that a try for sure.

This outfit will repair your headunit for a flat fee of $187.

Audio and Video Service Stop

Several members have used them and were happy with their service.

It's worth giving them a call (800-838-3394) or sending them an email ( info@videoservicestop.com ).

Let us know how it goes.

thanks! I've seen these guys on posts before. Are there any recommended shops on the west coast (California/Los Angeles)? I'm assuming the $187 doesn't include shipping.

so has anyone tried the place in the link?

i'm about to send my unit there.

our bose stereo recently took a dump.

it all started with an el cheapo CD-R...the flakes came off and the cd wouldn't read any of the disks...then after a few days, the wife said the speakers from the radio sounded like they were blowing up or something...so she shut them off...then after powering up the unit, we get no sound.

i checked all fuses and they were fine. i'm thinking the flakes burned up inside the unit and took the system out.

just sooooo wierd that this happened right after i got the car back from the dealer ;-)
