JL Audio Stealthbox - Click HERE for Original Thread

I know people have talked about it in the past but is there anyone actually using one? I'm considering buying one but want some feedback on the sound.

I shied away from getting the stealthbox because of the high cost of the box compared to the driver that is being used. The box is fairly expensive and you're getting their entry level lowest grade driver in the box (Contains one 10W1v2-4 subwoofer in a sealed enclosure. 300 watt power handling).

Instead I bought a higher grade driver from JL (10W3v3) and I'm in the process of making my own custom stealth box using the storage compartment as a mold for a fiberglass box with a wood top. It has been fairly simple so far and I'm pretty sure it's going to work. I started on it a couple of weeks ago, but haven't spent that much time on it. My work schedule has been pretty busy and I haven't finished it yet. I'm going to post pics and dialogue on the whole install once I finish, but if anyone has questions until then send me a PM.

The total cost of the box I'm building:

10" 10W3V3 DVC 4 ohm........ebay........$100
2x4 sheet of 5/8" MDF...........Lowe's.....$6
Fiberglass resin.....................Lowe's......$35
trowel, gloves, basin.............Lowe's......$15
fiberglass cloth......................Lowe's......$8
starch....................................Kroger.......$3

$167 (less if you figure that the trowel, etc isn't really a part of the box and just tools that some people might have anyway) total for a box with a much better driver

The recommended enclosure volume for both drivers as given on JL's website is the same so I knew I would be ok using the W3 instead of the W1. I thought about using the W6 driver and that would work based on the box volume, but the amp that I plan to use is better matched with the W3 and I don't know if the mouting depth of the W6 will even fit in the box I have in mind.

I made my own as well. Read about it here.

Krush's thread was the inspiration for a lot of the ideas that I have and I love the way everything was documented with pictures. I am going to post the results of mine when everything is finished and I have been taking pictures along the way as well. The time that I have is very limited and it's been a few hours on a Sat here and there with a lot of waiting time in between.

After I got into the project I decided to scrap the idea of using a mold with fiberglass. I probably could have done it that way, but by eliminating a few curves and going with straight edges instead I was able to build the entire box out of wood. I got it done with a great deal of trial and error by making the box top and bottom slightly too large on purpose and trimming it down to get as much air volume as possible in the given space. I got it glued, caulked, sealed and then I had to go out of town for 3 weeks for work. So I never really had a chance to fire it up but I did take a friend's JL Audio sub that was in his car and put it in mine for a test and it sounded incredible.

When I get back in town I'll take some pics of the box and then hopefully I can find the time to post the entire upgrade step by step along with pics of every process.
