I'm looking to buy a used 2007 Mo but to be perfectly honest with you all, I have no clue on where to start. It's going to be my first car (I would've gone through two by now had I not been out of the country for most of my life), so I've been doing a lot of research on the subject.
My budget is ~25K, and I want the best and most options I can afford with that. (I can haggle, since I'll be paying full cash for a used car) Do you think you guys can help me out?
I have a good idea on what exactly I want:
- Bose speakers (but I read some posts where they said the stock 6 speakers sounded better?)
- NAV (The entire package with GPS, color screen, etc.; I also want to install a carputer afterwards.. cars aren't my cup of tea but technical things are ;)
- Black Leather Interior & Exterior
- SE Trim (SE is the best trim for 2007, right?)
- I don't really know about the roof rails and stuff, I don't go out with skis and bikes much..
- Keyless entry (and the thing where you push the lock button three times and it starts the engine.. It's too bad 07 Mos don't have push-button ignition, I would've wanted that too)
As for the extra stuff, like:
- Tinted Windows
- "22 Rims (I saw a couple of nice ones on ebay)
- Floor mats
- Different headlights/fog lights
- Brake light smoked tints
...those can come later...
Basically, in the end I want it to look (on the outside) _somewhat_ like MuranDo's car (Which looks downright amazing btw):

^- Did he lower his car? And do those footstep things on the side come standard?
I have a friend who works at a dealership washing the cars and is friends with the boss.. and he says he can give me a good price, so factor in a good bargain price, too. (Or tell me what you think I should bargain the price to)
Think I can do it? (And remember that the 25K budget is only for the basic options and features for the Mo, which is all I'm thinking about for now)
Also, I'm always open for suggestions, so if you have any please post them :D |

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search.
Let's see...
The Bose system, while not great, is definitely better than the stock system.
SE trim is not the "best" trim level. A 2007 SE gets you different wheels, HID lights (standard), a psuedo 6-speed CVT, and an ever so slightly firmer suspension.

IMO, you are making a mistake getting Nissan's(or any one's) NAV. It adds about $2,000 to the price of a new Mo and from what I've read, it doesn't have the features of a Garmin Nuvi 760 at about $400.
And, we love our 2007 SL so you can't buy it!:p

I see what you guys are saying haha, well.. I don't mind whatever trim is best, but if in your opinions the SL is better, then you'd obviously know better than I would :)
On the other hand, I considered getting a Garmin GPS unit, but I just dont like how... 'otherworldly' it looks when separate from the head unit (I think that's what its called). I like how streamlined everything looks inside of the car, but I could be wrong, since I haven't really driven all that much.
Anyways, the NAV certainly adds something to the overall interior look doesnt it? (or if I'm not mistaken, dont all 07's come with the screen in the head unit?)
And~ I'm all about DIY so I want to start from scratch :2:
So.. does it really matter whether I get an SE or SL? Or does it not matter in the end after modifications are made? |

After everything is said and done, the only real "non-modifyable" difference between the SL and SE is that the SE will have a slightly stiffer suspension and the CVT will have a shifter gate that enables you to select one of six forward "gears". That's it.
So your best bet is to opt for a MO that gives you the most return on your $$. Since the SL is more common than the SE you may be able to get more car for the $ with an SL.
Good luck with your search.

Nissan shuffled their options setup beginning with the 2005 MO I think, when they introduced the S model. At that point, SE was AWD only, and had more standard options than the SL. To me, that suggested SE was "top of the line." However you can get an SL with everything the SE has, except for the manual gate shifter and the sport tuned suspension. The SE also had different color bumper trim too. Its not a huge difference, but it might not be a bad idea to take a ride in both to see which you like. For me, it was SE only, as I'll take the ride tradeoff for more responsive handling. There aren't too many aftermarket mods for the Murano, but if you plan on modding it, it won't matter if you have an SL or SE, except if you must have the manual gated shifter.
IMHO, I'd take whichever trim line you can find that has VDC. Its an option that is worth the price. |

| Ah, thank you all so much for answering my questions haha~ but what about keyless entry, remote ignition, and push-button ignition? Do any of those come standard or am I able to request them? |

Keyless entry is standard on all MOs, remote ignition is part of the Intelligent Key package that was available on the 2007, however the push-button ignition was not offered on the MO until the 2009 model-year.

While there isn't a "push button" ignition, the intelligent key offers a keyless start. You turn it just like your would any other car - but don't have to insert a key. I love not ever having to take a key/remote out of my pocket. :)
Another option that I love is the backup camera. As high as that back window is, it's nice to have a view of what's behind your bumper just in case.
I've read the arguments against the factory NAV. I personally like having it integrated instead of having another device. I'm sure it doesn't offer all the features of some portable units, but it is good enough for us, the little that we use it. I wasn't shopping specifically for the NAV, but the MO we found and loved happened to have it. It blows away the NAV in our Vibe, even though there might be even better out there.
Good luck and go Boilers! (I lived in Remington, IN from age 4-15 and had season basketball tickets at Purdue for 3 years) |
