Just installed a Sirius Starmate 4 in my 05 Mo. Using the PAC AAI NIS2 for the input on my OEM radio (Aux 1 & Aux 2 tried) Sat input.
Let me first say that I wanted to install the Sirius reciever that mounts in the car permanently, but $250 product was a little steep for a $12/mo. service.
Anyway, the Starmate has an adjustable audio level, and even with it cranked up the volume only gets half as loud as with the CD/Radio. The highs and lows in music have a distorted static effect to them at all volume levels, but is more noticeable at high volume. Also, I have tried setting the SSV setting to high, and it results in the same low fidelity sound.
Anyone have any experience with this problem? I'm using the Audio out output of the Starmate via Monster Cable 3.5mm to L/R RCA male cable, so I'm sure it's a good connection.
I'm thinking my last resort before sending the PAC back is to re-route the cable to the other side of the vehicle. It's currently running from the overhead sunroof control area down the Drivers side A pillar under the steering column to the rear of the radio console. I don't see what the difference the other side would make...... |

I've got the PAC AAI NIS2 in my 05 Mo too.
I've also got SIRIUS plug and play (Sportster 3).
I went with the FM direct adapter (30 bucks at Best Buy) with my Sirius and I love it. Great modulation, absolutely no interference. I would almost compare it to CD quality. (Although it's not, I think FM radio is comparable to 96k, not 128k)
Love it love it love it.
I have a friend that uses the audio out on his sirius and it sounds AWFUL.
I've tried the audio out on mine at work to a jambox and thought the quality was poor.
I have noticed with my PAC that I have to turn it up a little more than the normal radio. But only 3-5 more (Volume 20 instead of 16).
However that's through my iPhone which has a limited headphone output, not true line output. I also use SoundCheck to normalize files.
When I turn my radio all the way up with the PAC attached I can hear ground loop interference (high piched whining) but is not noticible otherwise. If it were too bad I would relocate the ground to the exact wire that the radio is grounded to.
So my advice:
1. Go buy the FM modulator for cheap.
2.Either keep the PAC for an ipod or dvd player or send it back and get your 80 bucks back. |

I had the FM direct adapter on my last car with my Sirius Stratus radio, and you're right, it sounded REALLY good for being over coax. I halfway thought about doing that again for this radio, but the ability to have an extra input & both being "line-in" quality swung me towards the PAC interface. I feel cheated because this was really never mentioned in any other threads that I have read.
........... I'd really like to return it, I just won't be happy with any audio coming across my bose stereo that sounds that bad. I'm glad I kept the packaging, hope I can get a refund on it.
..... shoulda just bought the Nissan Sirius receiver and avoided this whole mess. |

| Anyone have a PAC AAI-NIS2 they are willing to sell, assuming it will work on my 07? |

I've had the exact same problem with the low volume level and the static/crackle but only from one of the inputs on the PAC. The other input is much louder and has no static. But I've had other problems with my unit where it vanishes completely and won't show up to the radio and I can't even select it as a source. I've already talked with the local Nissan dealership about it and the custom sales guy there said that he would help me exchange it with PAC since it seems like a defective unit.
If I get another one that sounds the same way I might have to find some other way to get my HD radio into the system and buy the factory XM radio unit that installs in the back. I hope I don't have to do that because I've spent a lot of time ripping the dash apart and running all the wires to install the PAC unit. |
