What exactly does Gold-Preferred warranty cover? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Corin
I have the Gold-Preferred extended warranty on my 2005 SL. In for service the last couple days (see Armada thread) and the service manager called to tell me they recommended these things:

1) Brake fluid dirty, recommend flushing
2) Power Steering fluid dirty, recommend flushing
3) Drive Belt starting to crack, recommend replacing
4) Rear brake pads low, recommend replacing and resurfacing rotors (not sure why they want to resurface rotors, should not need it and have no brake shimmy, they just want money)

So my question is, what should my warranty cover? I know that all belts are "covered" but when I asked about that the service manager said that it only covers them if they break, not if it's just wearing out. In other words, I have to wait for it to FAIL on me, and risk being out in the middle of nowhere and causing other damage before Nissan will repair under warranty?

Any extended warranty experts out there that know exactly how this coverage works? I'm certainly not going to pay the dealership to do the repair work. If they won't cover any of this under warranty, I'll take it to a local mechanic and have it inspected again.

(on the plus side, they did fix my seat, and I haven't yet noticed any additional damage that they caused while it was in there. Plus, I got to turn in the stupid Armada. Certainly made me appreciate my own MO! :D )

Corin-

Extended warranties usually do not cover maintenence items. The replacement of fluids and belts not associated with a repair will not be covered.

Brake fluid "dirty"?? I doubt that very much.

Power steering fluid "dirty"?? No way.

You MO is only three years old. There is no need to change either fluid at only 36 months. If they are insistent have them point out in the Service Manual where Nissan states the fluids need to be changed at xx miles. They can't because there is no requirement.

Yeah, I agree with the whole fluid thing.

If I remember correctly, someone posted a while ago about the belt cracking. A modest amount of cracking is expected, but over x cracks per inch means you should replace it. I should have asked him about that when I was there, completely slipped my mind.
