My car sounds like it's falling apart... - Click HERE for Original Thread
Silver07SL
So I have 20k on the clock and my car literally sounds like it's going to fall into pieces every time I hit a bump or a rough road. There are rattling and buzzing noises coming from everywhere. Now I know what you're thinking, but (A) I don't drive like a maniac, and (B) I do not blast bass-heavy music all the time. The car has gotten progressively worse with the noises since I bought it in February with 6k on the odo. I can't wait to hear what it's going to sound like in the winter this year.

I know there have been countless threads on this, but I just have one question for everybody who claims NOT to have these problems... Is your stereo ALWAYS turned up so that you can't hear these noises? Or is it really hit or miss? I can't believe the noises in this 20,000 mile, $37,500 car!!! :3:

I'm not having those kinds of problems in my '07. I bought it new and have 12k miles right now.

About 16K on our 2007 SL(bought new) with no noises except the front tires 'roar' a little bit.

I guess this brings me to the conclusion that I should not have bought a demo, which was probably beat on by the salesmen.

Also don't buy a used Lexus ES300 when the saleswomen tells you "the previous owner is getting into off-roading and needed a four wheel drive". She didn't tell me he used the Lexus to see if he liked off-roading. We had all kinds of problems with it like a new trans, odometer (its breaking probably cost us $4-5 when we traded it in and couldn't prove the actual mileage), wheel bearings, etc.

It is almost impossible for the salesman to "beat" on a car to the point that he introduced the rattles you are referring to. The dealer may have had a lead foot and been agressive on the brakes, but that would not cause the body to rattle and squeek. Unless the salesman routinely took your MO off-road for some agressive driving I assume most of those noises come direct from the factory.

Some MOs come off the production line with mysterious squeeks, rattles, and buzzing noises. Others run for miles without making a sound.

So don't blame yourself for buying a demo. If you bought this MO right off the showroom floor chances are good it would have the same noises, unless... unless your MO was in an accident and poorly repaired.

I am lucky, my MO is relatively quiet with no unexplained noises.

I guess you do have a good point there about it being a demo and all...

I did consider the fact that it may have been damaged en route to the US or during shipping to the dealer. The carfax shows a clean record, but my guess is they would not have to report it if they were able to repair it to look new. The undercarriage looks fine and everything. I know the door panels probably need the TSB for foam to be applied. Aside from that, it's probably just loose bolts behind the trim panels and so forth. One weekend when I have some time I'll look into it more.

I also got a demo car with 11k on it and i just hit 20k last week and i have no issues yet..

If it's under warrenty and it bothers you that much; I would take it to your dealer and let them probe out the problems.....

Assuming you have a dealer that's willing to do that. I fought with Reno Nissan numerous times for exactly these types of issues. All I ever got back was "could not reproduce problem" or "vehicle functioning per specifications."

Chock another of the lucky up I guess, my '06 has 33k miles on it and the one noisy problem I had (a creaking/buzzing passenger window) was fixed pretty easily by the dealer.

All cars CAN squeak, and lots of them will vary in build quality, maybe you got the Monday car? :D

I know the feeling. My Murano has a ton of rattles but then that is why I turn my stereo up! :D :D

In all fairness, it is worse in the winter for me - there is a persistent rattle from the rear cargo area and I've already checked the spare tire/jack, so I have no idea where it comes from.

Mine started about a month ago. Everytime I hit a sharp bump, it sounds like shock bottoming out (back, passenger side.) Also, it seems like the back end jumps right on sharp bumps.

laurin1-

Welcome to the forum!

It is very possible that you have a failed shock. Since you are obviously still under warranty I would let the dealer tackle it.

That's my thought as well. I did take it in. It's not bad enough for me to be certain, and the service manager said they did not hear it, nor could they find anything wrong.

Really?

What an odd response from a dealer....
:bsflag:

Put the tech in your car and take him for a ride. Duplicate it yourself.

2004, over 50K miles, noting much, get a window tick now and then in cold weather. No squeaks or rattles though.

I must admit my car is spoiled in Atlanta suburbia. Not a pot hole ran into in years. They just don't appear around here due to the mild winters....I guess. Good roads= no rattles...or something.
