Thinking of upgrading my Bose speakers - would like to get crisper sound and better bass. I was thinking of the Alpine 'S' models.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)
Also, how do the door panels come off?
thanks |

2007Murano,
I'm not certain if the door panel removal is exactly the same as it was on the 2003-2006 models, but if so, you can use the instructions located here for detailed pictures showing what to do.

That's what I used to install my Infinity Kappa 62.9i's this weekend. They made a significant difference vs. the OEM, and only having BOTH installed up front, along with turning the tunes up, made me appreciate the difference it made.
As for the Alpine models, I have no idea. Are you planning on running a new amp to power your speakers? That will influence alot of the feedback you get here.
Hope that helps,

No not planning an amp - just the speaker upgrade for now.
the think i like about the Alpines is that they have the 1" silk dome tweeter which is not as harsh as many titanium ones cane be. |

| the Bose amp works at 2 OHM's putting in anything that is 4 OHMs can essentially cut your power output in half, that is why I went with the lappa's, they were one of the very few 2 ohm speakers.. |

| Sorry, I meant to say "Kappa's" |

Oh yes your right - i forgot about that. I think it was JBL that also made 2 ohm speakers.
I am concerned about the lack of bass from the Kappas that i have read about - is this true? |

| I am happy with the Bass and Treble (certainly a HUGE improvement over stock) and remember you still have the bose sub (not great but OK) |

2007Murano,
Yes, it is true that there is a noticeable lack of mid-bass and mud compared to the stock pieces of junk. The mud-woofer in the spare tire does a decent job of filling in some of the low end, but I can tell a significant difference in the lower mids. So the question is whether you want the low mids and mid bass of the stock speakers, the clarity of the Kappas, or the best of all worlds with a new amp and component speakers (and the price tag that goes with that)? It's a personal choice. Time and money factored into my decision not to put my Focal Polykevlar component speakers and 2x150W amp into this vehicle vs. having done that in my F-150. Do I miss the sound of the Focals? HELL YES! Do I regret not having spent the days and days (and possible extra cash to fix my screwups) of time it would have taken me to install that? Nope. And to be honest, if later down the road I chose to stick those in the front and amp them again, I can always move the Kappas to the rear doors and go from there. So I didn't throw the money on the Kappas away.
So basically, how much time and/or money are you willing to throw at this "problem"?
1.) Cheap = Stick with OEM speakers everywhere, but at least do the tweeter mod. Cost (assuming you have a soldering iron and solder) is around $2.50 for the two capacitors from Radio Shack and about 15-30 mins of your time.
2.) $130 or less investment = Replace front door speakers with Infinity Kappa 62.9i (or older model which are even cheaper) and do tweeter mod from above. This will take you somewhere between an hour to 6 hours, depending on how handy you are and how many dumb snags you hit, like me. :)
3.) Mucho dinero = Replace all the speakers and install one or more amps. The sky's the limit on this. Same with the time investment unless you pay to have it done. If you are going to fork out the cash to have it done, you may as well do the sub, too.
Of course you can mix and match any of the 3 above, but those are the "Big 3" in my mind.
Best of luck in making your choices.
Regards,
Jeff |

I got some 62.9's installed yesterday on the front doors - sounds great!! A big improvement - and now that i have seen what the stock Bose speakers look like i'm not surprised.
I have seen that Infinity also has a 10" sub/amp all in one package that sounded nice at the shop i was at. I think would make for another great upgrade vs. the stock Bose sub. |
