Nissan extended warranty experience - Click HERE for Original Thread

How is the experience out there about Nissan warranty covered service? Anyone experienced refusal of warranty covered service by Nissan dealers?

Also I was wondering whether they will honor the warranty work, if I do scheduled maintenance work my self? If I show reciept for parts purchases and perhaps picture of parts putting in?
For example, if I replace cabin filter, air filter myself?

I've taken mine in for extended warranty work, and they didn't have a problem. By law, they can't refuse warranty work if you service it yourself (or have someone else service it) but I suppose they could give you grief if it is something related to poor maintenance, but I believe that they have to prove that you neglected the work.

Of course, they tried to sell me on a whole bunch of non-warranty work that "really should be done" that I suspect was completely unnecessary....

That's good to know.
My wife went to the dealership for 45K miles service. They are confusing her by saying "premium maintenance" is required for warranty to be valid. I believe schedule 1 and 2 listed in the service schedule should be enough for the warranty to be valid, right?

Also she said we will do wiper change, engine air filter and in cabin filter change ourselves and ask them do oil/filter change, tire rotation (since she bought these services for 4 years when she got the car used from the dealership) and do inspections listed. They say that will make the warranty to be invalid.

Could someone point some written documents saying by law, dealer can't refuse warranty work if the maintenance work is done by owner or other shops?

Thanks!
Corin
Your dealer is full of crap. You need to call Corporate Nissan and report them. I can't point you to a specific law, but I do know that servicing your vehicle yourself or using an independent shop is perfectly find and will not void your warranty as long as the work was done.

Your dealer is preying on your wife, most likely because she's female. They're trying to get her to pay more for "premium" maintenance that is NOT required for the warranty, and also trying to scare her away from using independent shops to force her into using the over-priced dealership.

I would be seriously pissed (actually, I am, and it's not even happening to me) and refuse to ever go to this dealer again. I would complain to Nissan USA, and file a complaint with the better business bureau.

I would not trust this dealer at all because they may not even do the services they end up charging for.

OK, thanks for the reples. That clears up a lot.

But I'd like a little bit more clarification in case when the work is done by owner. I'm guessing that reciept of oils, filter or coolant purchases may work as the proof of work done. But what about the inspection parts of maintenance service?

I can of course do these inspections by myself, no problem, and keep the record of inspection results, even photos, but would that work as proof? Considering how they are, stealers would claim that I have fabricated inspection records....

From what I hear , there isn't a dealership near by that is really far better than the one my wife went....

I'm assuming stealers could refuse warranty work, if they think they can get more money from owners than from Corp Nissan, right?

by the way, zebelkhan I love the mod that you did! Is there how-tos available in the forum for some of those mods?

Would those mod void warranty?
