Re-circulating Air - Click HERE for Original Thread
Bambus
Hello,

My allergies are killing me, and I tried everything to get to re-circulate the air inside and NOT to have the A/C come on.. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE :3:

The only combination available is: Re-circulate + A/C.

I dont need the AC working cause it is not warm enough. Wont my AC comressor break if it kicks in whith the re-circulate button AND the temperature outside (22C) is colder than the set temerature (24C) inside??

Hopefully you guys can help.

There is no way to recirculate without the AC coming on.

I hated that from day 1. Sometimes I didn't want the outside "smell" coming in from certain areas and the AC comes on as soon as I Re-C.

You won't have to worry about the compressor; it will cycle on and off as it needs to.

That is normal operation; especially when "Auto" is selected for interior temp control.

The HVAC system will "blend" the warm air with the "dry" cold air to maintain the temperature you want the interior to be. So no worries there.

The only thing I don't like about running the AC when you don't need to is that it sucks up gas milage by almost 15 to 20%.

Thnx for the info about compressor not going bad. Now I can run it without worries.

I though MAYBE the in-cabin filter will help to keep most of the allergens out, but it does not.

So now that I know, I'd rather pay more for gas than fork out money for allergy medication and pump my body full of it.

Its only for the next 2 months.

THnx

I seriously doubt that it would be a 15-20% difference. Maybe 2-5%. I don't remember anyone posting that high of a difference when they tried it out.

The AC is a larger load in city driving than highway driving. Well the load is actually the same, but all the stop and go driving compounds the effect.

The reason why AC comes on with recirculating is because if you don't have the AC on, your windows will fog up from recycling moist air. Where does the moisture come from? Your own breath! The AC in addition to cooling the air, also dehumidifies it, and thats what its doing on the recirc setting.

You can just turn up the temp if you want to use recirc, but not feel too cold. Remember the heat is literally free anyways.

The compressor in your car requires anywhere from 1 to 2 horsepower. Do you really believe that adding a 2-horsepower load on the MO's engine is going to increase fuel consumption by 20%?

The impact on fuel mileage is much less than 20%.

I do not believe that the impact of AC runnig exceeds 1 mpg....at least it was my exerience. Of course the number would be higher if Murano was driven in a stop and go traffic in Southern suna nd 105F heat...;)

Rule of thumb regarding recirculation: The AC comes on to help eliminate fogging of the windows. All you have to do is turn up your temp setting to what you want and you're set.

But still...being such a nice SUV, one would think that you can turn on and off the AC whenever you wish. Even with recirculation on.

You're right; my comment was an exagerated one and I do take it back.

It just seems that I do notice it more since I drive only within the city for 80% of my driving and that the car does act more sluggish when the AC is on. I seem to get about 20 to 30 km less per tank during the time my AC is running.

I too also suffer from Ragweed allergy and my AC is pretty much on from mid Aug to late Sept. There's nothing like the feeling of cold air on the face when Ragweed hits. Makes me feel like taking the long way home:p

Wow! That's full six week or so! ;)

I basically run AC all year around. I hate open windows, always did. I cannot inderstand why someone would drive with an open window at 60 mph....

Fair enough, hard to tell when someone is exaggerating on a post or not! :D

My average # of miles on a tank (based on 178 fillups, averaging 15.6 gallons per fill) is 294.2 miles, or 470.7 km. 20-30 km less is 4.2% - 6.4%. Not a lot, but also nothing to scoff at.

I don't notice any performance difference between AC on or off, but then again it doesn't get extremely hot in my neck of the woods either.
